Default Question for you guys who deleted your A/C

1- Did you get any codes thrown? I hear some do some dont.

2- Did you notice your radiator operates more efficiently without the condensor blocking airflow?

I want my cooling system to cool better. I have a ssra and trans cooler on condensor. I figure deleting a/c condensor removal would help out a ton as well as cool trans cooler better. Also im exploring weight reduction again so it would be a great weight reduction thanks!

I pulled by AC out after the compressor died. It does save a decent amount of weight (20-30lbs) enough where the front end of my car sat slightly higher and does seem to cool better than it used to.

If you are looking into weight reduction the drag tech section has a list compiled of parts and their approximate weights.

edit.. it also makes changing the plugs much easier and clears up a nice area on the pass side as well!

Yup.. the AC system has its own belt and can be completely removed without needing to mess with any other systems on the car. Simply remove the AC belt then remove the, lines, compressor, and then the tensionser and AC bracket leaving the entire area completely empty.

I got everything off but that bolt that holds that canister bracket WAS NOT comming out. I had to rip the bracket off lol oh well. Time to take it for a ride. Im curious if it throws any codes.
What about that box that the lines connect to on pass side of the car? Is that just for ac?

To get that box out you have to take the dash all apart. i would only eliminate that if you thought you never wanted ac and heat ever again.

No codes will get set in the PCM from the AC. You might have some in the BCM but that does not set any warning lights.

almost.. if you pull the engine you can actually cut the box and in innards on the engine side of the firewall off flush and close it off with a piece of sheet metal. you will still retain heat but no longer have the plastic box hanging out.

I have the post saved..

And here is the entire thread that answers a lot of other small questions..

Thanks for the help guys. No codes but even Frost has posts that say we get codes from no ac and need tuning. Oh well no codes for me.
Yes its probly a good idea to keep the box.
I got 33lbs off the car with this stuff but where is the ac fan motor? The sticky says its another 21lbs.

So the fan motor for ac is that box that the lines go to or no?

AC fan motor is the blower motor.. if you loose that you loose heat too. I'd only go that far if you are building a track only car.

It will probably have an AC code in the PCM but it won't effect the emissions equipment or light the SES light.

Shoot. I thought I would be loosing the 40+lbs in the sticky thats why I did it. Oh well. Seems like my radiator and trans cooler do a better job now which is good.

hehe.. removing weight can get addictive but consider thins guys switch wheels and tires to loose 5 lbs and change hoods to loose 10-15 lbs so 20-30 lbs is a lot especially when its directly over the front tires. It will really help with weight transfer and the 60'.. might be all you need to get the 11's.

I deleted mine when my AC compressor grenaded on me. There's a good pic of mine in the "power steering cooling success" thread.

1 month sans AC now and no codes whatsoever. I noticed cooler temp too. I left my drier and all though. Just deleted the belt and the compressor. The compressor weighed quite a bit.... I was pretty surprised, considering half of it was gone, LOL.

LOL yea its all to addicting The wheels are different though cause thats unsprung weight I think its called. So if you lose 5 lbs on one wheel I think the formula is 5lbs lost x 4 or something like that. According to the experts its 20lbs lol.
Yea idk how far I will go with this. Iv had the back seats out 4 times before and cant decide to stay full weight or not. But now I have the ac out and its like I have no choice now LOL

yes that is true with the wheel weight.. . plus going to a skinny drag type wheels drastically cuts the contact patch leaving less friction and even less air resistance. Every little bit helps.

I went nuts at one point and pulled of tons of stuff form the front sway bar, bumper supports, installed a lightweight K-member, I was soo close to moving the battery to the trunk and cutting out the door bars but since then had to push my car back in to daily driver use so I went back to stock heads and cam and I put most of it back on. It still has no AC though.. lol.
