Default engine bay mechanical oil pressure gauge ?

i think my oil pressure sending unit is bad but i would like to install one in my engine bay before going through the trouble replacing the unit. i think there is a place i can access right above the oil filter. does anyone know what fitting i need or is there a kit for my ls1? i had posted this under gen IV by mistake and was told id have to tap that access to accomadate a fitting?

5/16 drill bit, 1/8npt tap......then just use the fittings that come with a mechanical autometer pressure gauge.
