Default Anyone running an 85mm MAF?

I know LSx guys are picking up power with them. Are they plug and play in our cars too? I think i remember reading somewhere that they max out pretty early on our cars but it's been awhile since I did any research into them. Trying decide what to do before I order a regular lid or a lid for an 85mm MAF.

Your probably going to get mixed feed back on this, but I would keep the stock maf I have seen very good results with it. Larry Speed Inc 10.67 on motor Butch (Bolo) 11.00's on motor. I run an 85mm but have been thinking of switching back to see what the real gain or loss is.

Just because someone ran xx.xx with a stock maf doesn't mean it is a restriction at that level, and if an 85mm delco/delphi maf isn't any harder to tune than a 75mm MAF....

I guess what I'm trying to say is why waste your money on a maf when the stock one is perfectly fine for atleast na applications.

I'm trying to figure out if that's the case. Some LSx guys with less power than me are reporting gainsr with bigger MAF's, and LT1's come with the same MAF from the factory.

The LT1 pcm only "understands" them to something like 360gps because the MAF is meant to match a pcm that can read a higher frequency range. Beyond that point the tuning will basically need to be treated speed density. Talk to your tuner.

PM me if you like too I played with this when it first came out.

So I guess the EFI 24x could benefit from it though.

I ran a Z06 85mm on my car for years without any issues. The EFI 24x would benefit from this more than the LTx due to the PCM restrictions.

The values out there to put the Z06 MAF into a LT1 PCM I actually came up with years and years ago. (I have the posts on CZ28.com to prove it, and the spreadsheet that I did it with! lol).

The reason I did it wasn't a performance standpoint. The reason for me was a cost basis. My stocker **** the bed, and the Z06 one at the time was 1/3 the price; plus the $15 for the adapter cable; it was a no-brainer once I figured out the PCM values.

Id talk to Ed Wright. Im pretty sure, he did back-to-back tests with the factory MAF, vs. the 85mm MAF.

Talked to my tuner. He shut down the 85mm MAF idea pretty quick so I'll be sticking with the stock one.

I installed one on my new build, and Ed made me take it off and go speed density.... You can't argue with Mr. Wright's experience! Now it and the wiring harness are collecting dust in a drawer. Thanks for reminding me to sell it!

How did it work out for you?

I recently installed a stock LT1 MAF in my 93 with a 24x to get it to idle properly until I get the car tuned.
I'm trying to decide if I want to run a MAF (stock or otherwise) once I have a proper tune or if SD is the way to go.
