Here are a few pics and a crappy cell phone video of the car. Ordered the motor about two weeks ago and just finished everything today. Just waiting for Patrick G to tune it and get it road ready. For those of you that haven't seen my threads on the other G8 forums this is the LSX 454 GMPP long block.

Now for the porn....

Sweet... although I'm not sure its going to put down 700+whp for the highest title. Looks like a solid 500 though once you get that junk intake and intake manifold off of there... your just staring at a wasted 40+whp!

Did you go with a custom cam or the crate motor cam? Crate compression or other, etc...

Who is making 700? Guess I haven't heard of them.

It's just the crate cam and 11:1 compression. Going to have those replaced soon as well. Just wanted to get the car back on the road since it's my main mode of transportation.

There are a bunch of guys making 600+ actually.

Yeah I'm guessing it'll put down just under 500 with the crate setup, which is still enough to run solid 11's all day.

those #'s are NA? Or with a power adder? We are hoping for about 550 with Patrick G's tuning, but we shall see. The car ran 11.41 already with the old motor so I'm hoping to beat that time and go for the only 10 second NA car.

SLOW SEDAN has the numbers right. If you break 500 RWHP with that intake I will be impressed. You'd probably break the record if Pat hooks you up with a nitrous kit or a procharger, though. Or a CI package. It would be unbelievable fast!!

You will be running 20-30 more hp and be about 70 lbs heavier.

Your car looks bad ass with that motor in there BTW! Love it.

Wasnt it Pat G's car that put down just over 500 NA with stock cubes? Most guys have a blower, TT, or N2O to get up into the higher hp #'s but some guys have done 408 and 427 builds that put out some good power.

What was your old setup that went 11.4? 550 would be sweet, especially on motor should be enough for 10's.

Ohhh had no idea he sold it... so what happened to the motor he put together? You said it blew up? Must have been catastrophic if you couldn't use the heads and intake that were on there before.

Sorry about that. Thought I posted it about it already. Yes sir it sure did. I actually sold the intake off, because I was planning on just running a stock engine for awhile until my warranty expired. Then I decided to go with the LSX and immediately kicked myself in the ass for it. lol

I'll hopefully be down there in the 10's with you one of these days. What are you're mods? Stock trans and rear still?

You should get 10's easily with that setup once it's dialed in. Throw some N2O on it when it's starts to feel slow again.

My trans is stock with a 3600 stall. I just did the DSS 9" conversion and hitting the track next week to test it out for the first time. Most of my other runs were with the Camaro 3.45 rear.

I'm envious of you man! I really want to go with the 9" conversion but it's going to be awhile before I can afford to drop that much on anything after this engine swap. Has anyone hit 9's in a G8 yet?

We put down 590whp on a LSX 454 in a 2011 GMC short box reg cab truck on stock converter, 1.75" headers and 3" exhaust. This was running out of fuel at 6300rpm through a stock 6l80e. We have another LSX454 going into an RX7 with a th400. We expect 620whp NA and adding 150 shot after that.

What are the details on those setups? I assume you ran more compression and more cam then the out of the box crate motor. What about heads, intake manifold, etc..

Looks like a solid option to FI!

The car has a street tune in it now. If feel pretty strong, but not over 500rwhp. Feels more like 450-460. Might be the extra weight slowing the car down plus the 100 degree heat we're having. If this engine came with CNC ported LS7 heads instead of the as-cast 6 bolt LS7 versions, it would probably put down another 30rwhp. A good CAI would be worth at least 15 on an engine this size. A 102mm intake and TB would add another 15-20. Can't even think about going any bigger on cam until there's a torque converter looser than the stock one that's in there now. It pulls against the brakes pretty hard as it is. Lots of potential with all the cubes. With forged pistons and iron block, it should take some strong abuse. Just wish the trans was a strong.

That makes two of us. Every time I push on the throttle anymore than 1/4 I get scared something is going to break. Do you know of anyone that rebuilds the 6l80 to hold anything more than stock? I also might consider getting 510raceengineering to port and polish these heads later on, instead of buying a brand new set of heads.

Circle-D does a good job getting the 6L80 to hold power. About $3k for the full build.

Works out about the same price wise getting new heads vs working over the ones you have. You can always sell yours afterwards if you buy new ones and it works out about the same ya know.

They get close to 400cfm on the intake. Porting includes intake & exhaust ports plus combustion chamber work. Totally worth the money in a 454.

Here is the pull from this weekend at LSX Performance Dyno Tuning here in Victoria, TX. She put down a nice 471 rwhp & 436 rwtq. I'm very impressed that it did that well with the stock air box, ls7 intake, and stock axle back.

I saw this on grrrr8. I'd be happy with those numbers through a stock intake and exhaust.

For those that would like to take a gander here is the dyno graph. Hopefully it'll be a little better in a month or so.

I"m curious to see what the LSX 454 does in crate form. 500whp would be a badass setup

ebaker

That actually is crate form. I bought the engine straight from gmpp and had it installed. The only add on is a slightly ported ls7 intake and of course the ar headers and exhaust.

So does the title of the thread still hold true now that you know a bit more about what's required to get the most powerful G8 (at least 730whp on 93 octane, but I'm sure someone's gone higher in the US, WAY higher in AU), or have you down graded to trying to achieve the most powerful NA G8, or have you downgraded even further to just getting it over 500whp and being happy with that?

I'm focusing on the drive train at the moment and making sure everything can handle the power before I throw a big number at it. I still have every intention of going for the highest horsepower G8 whether it be NA or FI I'm unsure, still trying to research and see which route I would like to take. I'm enjoying the amount of power it has for now though. Easily beating modded C5 and C6 corvette's is pretty nice.
