Gauges stopped working and now car won't turn over

Gauges stopped working and now car won't turn over I was driving home a few minutes ago, and the gauges stopped working (tach,speedometer,oil pressure, battery,odometer etc). The engine kept running fine so I drove the rest of the way home.
When I got home I shut off the car and tried to start it again but it won't turn over. It doesn't make any sounds (clicking etc) when I turn the key.
Are the two problems related?
Additionally, rarely the "security" light comes on and I have to wait 5 minutes to start the car.
