Default VX Mufflers vs. Flowmasters

Well guys I'm now on a journey to improve the sound of my car after hearing a certain members Red Monte Carlo SS @ the Michigan meet & greet. His car sounds amazing and now I know what to go for and what a v8 should sound like lol. He has flowmaster 40 Idk if they were just the original or the supers. But anyway all this morning I called local muffler shops and they told me they have flowmasters but they also have vx mufflers, which were the same thing as flowmasters just without the name cause that's all I'm paying for.

The Vx Series Mufflers are Made by: AP Exhaust Products and they have been in business since 1927. From what i was told they now own the Patent on the flowmaster 40 series muffler and are producing them but with the new name VX series! The Flowmaster 40 was the oldest and first muffler put out by Flowmaster, but there line has gone so far more advanced than the 40 series that they put the patent up for sale. This is just what i was told by our local Exhaust shop!

dont get flowmasters if you plan on having a very raspy exhaust note. I have had them before and with my exhaust setup, they were really raspy and quite annoying under partial throttle. Go with Spintech, SLP, or Magnaflow with our cars.

thats all you need, i had just one of these on my GXP with the DOD gone and it gave it that LS series sound, almost that vette sound. But it was pretty loud, but still sounded great.

Wow, the Vettes sound gay? That comment is haha just joking with you, Vroom. The Vettes sound like pure sex (the straight kind) to my ears lol. Especially compared to our LS4's

I had flowmaster super 44s on my GXP and it wasn't raspy at all.....and the original poster already said that he heard the setup in person so he knows what it will sound like....all he simply asked was if he should buy the flowmasters or get the other brand the shop says is the same thing....I personally say get the flowmasters that way there are no surprises...

Well the price of the vx series mufflers are like 40 bucks. Flowmasters are like 78-100 bucks. And thats the price from ap itself which is the place that makes the mufflers. But they have a display of both mufflers and surprisingly its exactly the same muffler. So I'm really tossed up on the 2. Plus I can get both the vx muffler and 3 inch tips for like 110. But Idk which tips I like rolled or un rolled.

I spoke with MidLifeCrisis via PM and he said his system was with the original series Flowmaster 40's.

One other thing your going to want to think about is getting rid of DOD because when it activates you will have a awkward sound from the exhaust, almost like a helicopter following you. I know we discussed doing the exhaust and tune so we might want to get the CAI, Tune and Exhaust all around the same time? That was directed to Str8BlkSS

Haha, Im waiting for Str8BlkSS to send them to me. I was slightly disappointed in the turn out with the meet. I had like 22 RSVP and had about 4 people show up. 2 of which never RSVP'd. I forgot their tags on here however DAMMIT! Maybe Str8Blk or Midlife will chime in. All together there were four LS4's. I will say however, I had a great time while I was there. I learned a lot of information about these cars and definitely heard some great cars! (You two know who you are! haha)

Displacement on Demand...It is basically a system in the engine that shuts your cylinders down when they are not required. From 8 to 4. When it engages your exhaust note will change.

Your system right now is stock therefore you do not notice it.

The red monte was saw had DOD tuned out, therefore you would not hear it. Also, DOD does not kick in at idle, only when your driving down the road.

It can be tunes out during what ever tune you end up using, (HPtuners or Predator)
