I dunno man,...maybe the inner framing/guts of the sock frame?

Thats what the guys at racetronix thought as well. There seems to be a supportive mesh inside the sock. I guess its not there anymore.

Yeah man, it's gotta be that. Never seen it happen but, I have seen the "cage" many, many times. If I remember, I will look for an old sock, and cut it open to show what it looks like as a whole.
