Default How to make 440 RWHP on LS1

This is simply some good info for those of you who want a NA motor with good power, and are curious about what it takes. I have had my 04 M6 GOAT completely stock for years now and finally decided to go all out. I will list the parts installed in chronological order with Dyno results and prices. All my work was done by Virginia Speed, a great group of folks here in VA beach. All prices are rounded.

Bone stock:
-295 RWHP

Spintech Dual side exit exhaust $550 used
Svede OTRCAI with upgraded IAT $ 500
-309 RWHP

Trickflow 215 heads $2600
Harland Sharp Rockers $425
Custom grind cam $ 525
UD pulley $200
Kooks 1 7/8 headers and catted X pipe $1300
Bosch Green giant 42 lb injectors $440
Oil change/ Filter $60
Installation of all above $1375
Dyno tune and street tune $400
Misc: Belts, head gaskets, Bolts, Lifters, springs $???

Total price of all parts, labor installation and tune was $9850, end result went from 295 RWHP to 437 RWHP. Compare the price of a Supercharger + installation and tune your looking at roughly the same price, for the same results ( 50% RWHP increase) Keep in mind with the SC, you would def want at least aftermarket Cold air intake and exhaust so add another $1000 at least.
You cant beat the sound and feel of all motor, this was just to help the same people that were in my shoes 2 months ago trying to figure out what the hell to do.

-Ken

The $ key and 4 key are the same. Probably meant $9850 and missed the Shift key.

That's awesome! I love all motor cars, and want to do a lot of this to my LS1. Thanks for the information.

You should post an exhaust clip.

I'm making about 360WHP with intake, exhaust, tune and a couple of other minor things. It's one of my goals to break 400WHP in my DD, but every time I see that a new set of heads is recommended, I feel because there's no way I can afford a new set of heads. But I figure with an LS6 manifold, and hopefully a healthy cam I get break 400WHP.

I love your set up, OP! Congrats!

My plan for the range of 430-450 RWHP is some AI machined 241s ($995) and a EPS baby cam ($400). Along with full bolt ons, and other valvetrain mods to go along with the cam Im hoping for $4500-5000 installed.

I made 463hp 414tq on a ls1,m6 trans am on a mustang dyno. My car at 3,700lbs w/me in it went 11.1. You should make great power with the tfs heads, fast intake and a matched cam.

damn, that is a long time to eat beenie weenies to save up that much. well, being that i'm a broke ***, i'll have to stick with gettin the bottle filled every once in a while.

i know this is off the topic of all motor but,

i figured for 10k, i could go turbo and double the rwhp. is that not possible?

On my LS1 GTO I had a magnacharger and a catback and I made 430whp. Magnacharger kits go for like $5,000 new. That number is SAE corrected too.

Find a used set of LS6 heads when you get the cam and you can have your goal easily. The LS6 topend would help out with you reaching your goal quite a bit. I'm hoping for 425rw when I get my cam/exhaust/vararam installed.

243's and a mild EPS cam seem to be doing a good way into the 420's for a whole lot less than near 10k

Nice... but thats not a wise use of cash imo.

You couldve started ground up and done a stroker for that much if you wanted to stay n/a and have a hell of a lot more power.
I think my stroker was under 5000, 2000 for used h/c/i, a generous 2000 for odds and ends, tuned and installed myself. 9000$ and its probably doin just shy of 550rw. Also, for 10grand and some shopping around/creativity, you could build a reliable FI setup/motor and make way more power.
