I have a 2001 silverado w/t truck with just 2 speakers in the door and 2 in the back of the cab. Its just the base model so no Bose. I can not seem to get the radio to play any sound. Ive tried 2 different headunits and its the same. The kenwood unit will go into protect mode the second I hook any of the speaker wires up. Its driving me insane. I took some wire and ran wires directly to the speaker in the driver side and its the same deal. No sound and the kenwood model goes into protect mode. the pioneer just wont play any sound. What could it possibly be?

r u sure you got all the wires hooked up right,,, sometimes theres 2 yellows or greens or stuff like that,, and if its backwards it could be putting 12v into your speaker lead and mess up the internal amp.

Are you 100% there isnt an external amp,, i ran into that issue with a 03 grand prix where i had to hook up an extra wire to turn on the stock external amp to let the sound go thru.

If still no luck... go thru the list,,, only hook up the
yellow, red then black then the 8 speaker wires only.

if still nothing you may have a blown speaker thats setting off the amp,, or a stripped or touching wires,,, are the speakers stock?

another issue ive seen turning off sound was,, the thin unprotected wire inside the speaker was hitting on the cage of the speaker shorting it out.

all the speakers actually turned out to be blown.. replaced them with some new ones. The old speakers would not even pass a battery pop test.

yep normally all it takes is one to power down the internal amp in the deck so no damage occurs.
