Default 2009 G8 GT: CAI, Axleback, Tune

I've had this car since September 2008 and finally decided it was time to start modifying it. Now that I've driven it for a week with the current mods, I don't know how I drove it stock for over 2 years.

First up is my baseline pull. This wasn't made on the same dyno, but both the baseline and the modded pulls were done on Dynojets, and all the pulls were SAE corrected, with the smoothing set to 5. Also, the baseline pull was done in 3rd gear (1.532:1) because the stock speed limiter would prevent a full 4th gear pull.

301 rwhp and 318 rwtq. Not bad numbers in my opinion, and they were enough to get me into the 13.5 range (6 tenths faster than my first A4 LT1 Trans Am) at 102.9 mph (almost 6 mph faster than the same LT1).

Eventually though, enough becomes not enough, so the mods have begun (mild as they may be).

I ordered up a Solo Performance axleback exhaust:

I also ordered up a Vararam cold air intake:

Personally, I like the way the Rotofab intake looks alot better, but people have been swapping from the Rotofab to the Vararam and gaining at the track, so I couldn't say no.

The car was also tuned by KissMySSo1 using HP Tuners.

Here are the results (done in 3rd gear to keep them consistent with the baseline). The red line is what the car put down right off the street, with the intake and exhaust, but stock tune. The blue line is after the tune.

Just for fun, I made one last pull in 4th gear (1.152:1 ratio, there is no 1:1 in the 6L80 transmission) to see how that would compare to the 3rd gear pull:

After driving the car with the new tune and mods, it's a night and day difference. The car pulls strong and shifts at 6300 instead of the 5900-6000 that it was shifting at stock. It shifts hard and comes into the next gear making more power (due to the higher rpm). Overall I couldn't be happier with round 1 of modding and now I can't wait to get it to the track.

Here's a picture of the car:

Fun video my buddy (Ju1ce) made for me:

Everyone (me included) is like with that pipe hanging off the exhaust. It's suppose to prevent drone, and it must work pretty well because I haven't noticed any at all so far. I know alot of people were simply cutting the mufflers out of the stock pipes at first, but the drone was driving everyone nuts.

Nice vid, lol! Love the way that exhaust looks too. Tips are very high quality. It's weird to actually be able to hear your car while cruising now. I have to get used to it!

Haha, it's nice that people actually know it's a V8 now. I do think it sounds better from inside the car then it does from the outside. I can't wait to see how it sounds after I get headers.

Love those G8s; best 4 doors to my taste for performance/look.

Hoping to have the headers in by the end of July, but that's just a goal right now. I haven't ordered them yet or anything.

I have much love for the G8's. Minus a 2010 C6 Z06, they're the most well built/refined LSX powered vehicle GM ever produced IMO.

I love that car. I'm so glad the exhaust tips are dual/dual and somewhat "stock" looking because I liked the stock ones a lot. That car pulls SO much harder now it's not even funny. It feels amazing on the shifts.

Damn, I'd be more than happy if my car ran that!

Yeah, that'll do it, lol. I'm hoping to run like 13.1 at LVD on a decent day.

Just got mine tuned this weekend with almost the same mods but it was 62% humidity and 92 degrees in the shop and made 10rwhp less than yours did. Didnt know where to get the SAE stuff to find out what the corrected whp would be but guessing it should be around what yours made. Mine went 13.41 at 104 with the mods and no tune so hoping with the tranny tune and ECU tune to get in the 13.0s or 12.9s. I would be happy with that.

Good looking car btw
