Saw this on a Dutch/German website, as I'm sure most of you know the Monaro competes with the Ford Falcon in the land down under. Ford is offering a hi-po Falcon to be displayed at the Melbourne auto show.. Looks rather Skyline-ish...No mention if Ford would ever plan to bring a Falcon to the United States....
Ford F6 Typhoon
Ford Performance Vehicles is set to create a storm at the Melbourne Motor Show in Australia later this month when it blows the wraps off its first turbo-charged concept car – the F6 Typhoon.
This dynamic new production concept will add another dimension to the exciting evolution of FPV and build on the success it has generated since the launch of the GT, GT-P and Pursuit ute last year.
“This is the beginning of a new era for Ford Performance Vehicles,” says David Flint, Managing Director of Ford Performance Vehicles.
“When we announced the formation of Ford Performance Vehicles we promised to create the broadest range of locally-developed high-performance vehicles in Australia. We believe the exciting F6 Typhoon is the next step in delivering that promise – but certainly not the last.”
“We raised the bar in the V8 segment with the GT, and we believe the F6 Typhoon will further strengthen our position as the technical leaders in the tribal high-performance vehicle market. It will demonstrate our commitment to providing a family of cars that offer a Total Performance package.”
The F6 Typhoon will be powered by a high-performance turbo-charged and intercooled 4.0-litre six cylinder engine that is certain to provide exhilarating performance. More information, including power and torque outputs, will be released at the Melbourne Motor Show on February 27.

The turbocharged Falcon has been around for a little while, I think it was new last year or the year before.
Anyways, it's an awesome ride, if Ford offered it here I'd likely buy it over the new GTO.
Ford has hinted to AutoNews and other outlets that if the GTO does well here they may start importing the Falcon V8 and turbo as a similar niche vehicle.
You can read all about it here,

Ford has always been a contender to Holden but Ford australia is always in Holdens shadow. And its not a V6 as someone thought its a ford I6 that they have had for years now turbocharged. Likely you will never see a falcon come here, best thing for ford to do is build falcon stateside and call it the new Crown Vic or falcon.

I think it looks like a Sentra SE-R with Bimmer 745 headlights. Still pretty cool though. That engine compartment was pretty. I assume there is no two door version of this ride? They should make it a coupe and bring back the Torino GT. That would be sweet. I've watched some of the V8 Supercar races in Australia, and it does seem that Holden has the upper hand. Maybe Ford will bring something stateside and enter the drifting competitions along side Rhys Millen :judge:

4.0 Liter Ford, I am trembling!!! Well it has a Turbo but, yuck, will not sound like a V8 no matter what they do to it!!!

That's the appeal you could say, ditto for Supras and turbo Buicks, not everyone likes V8s. Some people love boost.
Perhaps the announcement of the upcoming four door Dodge Charger (and demise of the Marauder) will give Ford even more incentive to sell the Falcon here.

Now that's a car with panache!.... a turbo inline 6 that has a well built bottom end will certainly eat the GTO's LS1 for lunch...

NEWS FLASH: 14/2/04
APS PHASE III Storms into the 10 second 1/4 mile bracket
Today is a very special day for all XR6T enthusiasts, for just an hour or so ago in 30+ C ambient temperature, Vic Elfes in a blood orange XR6T made history by storming down Sydney’s brand new ¼ mile drag strip in an outstanding 10.98 sec @ 124.87 mph. This not only sets the ¼ mile performance benchmark, but also becomes the first XR6T to break into the 10 sec bracket!
Those in Sydney may have heard of Vic as he is the V in C&V Performance. Vic took a bog stock blood orange XR6T, installed an APS PHASE III System, performed the C&V magic to the XR6T’s auto and bolted on a set of small slicks.
Prior to heading off to the track, Con (the C in C&V) calibrated the PHASE III enhanced Falcon to the higher state of tune of 385 kW at the wheels – a great achievement given that the engine was totally stock and that the APS PHASE III components were the only engine performance enhancements – (no NOS or any other mods).

That engine definitely sounds very promising. Can you say "S-u-p-r-a"? Wheather we like it or not, this IS the way to make the max horsepower and break that 500rwhp barrier in a relatively cheap street engine.

well the typhon as seen on www.fpv.com.au
has a dual over head cam straight 6 (4.0 ltr) with variable cam timing and valve timeing. i know it aint no V8 thats why we have the ford falcon GT with the 5.4ltr V8 and 290 KW with 520nm.
oh well just thought i would tell you the stats on that FPV stock turbo engine that they are offering.
270kW at 5250rpm while its maximum torque of 550Nm is on tap from 2000rpm and remains constant all the way through to 4250rpm. more tourqe than any other Australian built car. as for the sound it aint meaty like a GTO but it doesn't scream like a GTR-skyrine either. It should become the fastest Aussie built car when it is released and well your correct you guys will probably miss out.
here is a pic of the dead sexc ford-GT enjoy.

id have to say though in all honesty it is unlikely you guys will see a falcon ... although you can only hope. With the 500 coming back for you guys and the frestyle it seems a little unlikely that you will see this product. With both thoughs cars being very similar to our Falcon and Tertiory respectivley (would not be surprised if the the 500 and frestyle sit on almost the same chasie). well yeah holden(GM) does out sell ford over here by alot and pitty ford-australia doesn't export like they do i.e. pontiac gto.
P.S. if your a GM fan then holden australia (buliders of the monaro /pontiac gto) is probably where you should go for a druel. Here you will see the falcons main compeditor the commadore.

oh yeah and as far as this falcon ever going to america well i thought i would break it to you that it has already been. the XR6-T was taken to america (detroit) by wheels car magazine (aussie car mag) and one was also driven through europe and south africa.

Has the front end of an RSX
AustinM1983
04-28-2004, 06:00 PM
it has a weight of about 1800kg dude and well i promise siding up to one at the lights is a little more imposing than say an RSX. its like comparing a pontiac GTO to a honda civic. They are simply totally different cars its probably hard to tell but the lights and whole package give it a kind of wide muscular stance. just like i would say with a pontiac GTO wait till you see one in the skin and then drive it before you judge. Oh and refinment wise (handiling, engine, technically, finish) it makes the GTO look like a dinosaur. see it , drive it, then judge it.
