Default Straight pipe exhaust?? Can it hurt performance or damage the car??

Sorry to keep making threads guys but i have yet to find the answer i am looking for. Seems to be a lot of people running straight exhaust on youtube but i am trying to find out if it can be done safely without harming the motor or losing performance?

The setup i plan to run is Kooks 1-3/4 LT's, catless connectors, magnaflow X-pipe in place of stock resonator and no mufflers to magnaflow 4" tips. Yes... I know it is going to be LOUD which is what im looking for. My buddy has this setup on his vette and its surprisingly tolerable despite what you would think and sounds pretty nasty at idle and at WOT! Ill most likely have some borla stingers or other bullet type muffler/resonators welded in later to tone it down some but for now, i just want to get the exhaust installed and get it tuned.

Current setup at the moment as you've probably seen in my other thread is stock manifolds, stock cats, x pipe in place of resonators and no mufflers to the 4" magnaflow tips. The Kooks i purchased include the kooks catted connectors (high flow cats) but since i have decided to have the car tuned after the install, I might as well go catless which is what i really wanted to begin with. Im going to go ahead and sell the catted connectors and order the catless ones from kooks or perhaps try to trade someone in the classifieds for their catless connectors and $$$ for my brand new catted connectors if anyone is interested. I just want to be able to install the Kooks and catless connectors and tune the car while leaving the rest of the exhaust as it is for now until i can get the money to order the borla stingers or whatever i plan to run.

So... Is it going to be safe to run this setup? Will performance suffer? I figure the X-pipe and full piping to the rear of the car will probably keep enough backpressure and the tune should make it ok but i'm not a professional here.

Thanks for the help and input in advance guys!!

I'd think the only thing that would hurt is eardrums.

The idea of bottling up the exhaust to keep backpressure is a wive's tale, in my opinion.

Lol! Yeah... I know its gonna be LOUD when I'm hard on the throttle but at idle and cruising around, my buddies vette sounds awesome. It even sounds great at WOT... just super loud! lol I dont plan to leave it this way permanently since its my daily but it will be this way for a short while.

See... i've never got a straight answer on whether its important or not. Some say the more freely the exhaust flows, the better. Some stick with the backpressure thing. I know a lot of guys run open headers at the track so i would think if that helps performance, the whole backpressure thing can't be too true.

I'd love to see a Vid!! I tried your link but it say unavailable due to privacy settings. I'm not sure what that means. Maybe u have it visible to friends only?

Kooks and cutouts were my initial plan but knowing myself, I'd prob run around with them open constantly anyway. Lol if I do add mufflers later, I'll prob pick up some electric cutouts too

it's not just your opinion, it's fact. it's been proven with dyno's and quarter miles ET's and times.

I guess the reasoning is that the car feels faster with back pressure because the engine is working harder to expel the exhaust gasses. If you search around on here I'm sure you'll find the thread.

Backpressure is for two-strokes.

When the exhaust is final, you may want your tuner to work on the decel part of the tune to reduce the "popping" you may get with no resonator in place.

Id throw the stock resonator back in and go with the original plan on the rest. Itll still be really loud but it may have a little tone to it. I have your same setup just cats and resonator and i love it.

Complete straight pipes is gonna drone like a ****.

Hmmm... So catless but with the stock resonator? Or keep the high flow cats and get the resonator too?

Is the stock resonator a straight through x pipe just with the resonator casing to keep drone and noise down?

As far as ive heard the resonator is a buitl in xpipe with glasspack or some sort of material around it. I have high flow cats, stock resonator, and no mufflers with 4" tips and I love it I get a ton of compliments on it.

It depends. You have to look at where in the powerband you are, and the cam profile.

You want the exhaust scavenging to help low RPM TQ. Of course, none of you granny shift at 1800 RPM, so for you guys, there's no benefit.
