Default Questions about a 1974 350.

Picked up a 86 Iroc..trans is shot..The guy I got it from bought the car with no motor. I was told the motor he had put in was out of a 86 GMC pick up. I check the numbers on the block and the stamp up front on the block. Build date was April 1973 and the suffix code says the block came in 1974 (350) police cars or 1980 camaro's.(305). The question is if its worth keeping and rebuilding it? It runs fine, just dont know how long.

Thanks.......I'm having the trans rebuilt and putting in a 2400 stall. I would like to change the cam to something that will work with the 2400 stall, something lumpy but not too lumpy. Any ideas? I've been working with 4 gen camaros and C6 vettes. This is the first carb. car in about 30 years so I'm behind on these motors.

It really depends on the rest of the setup. Gears, heads, etc,..

Those are high compression, but small valves and ports. Unless you doing a very budget build, i'd go with something better. The vortecs are the best bang for the buck out there.
