WOT shifting (3rd to 4th)
Not finding a real answer from searching. Maybe someone can chime in and help a newb. I am running into an issue with WOT shifting...car just bounces off the rev limiter shifting from 3rd -> 4th. I was on the freeway with the converter locked doing about 80mph. When I stepped into it, to unlock the converter to do a freeway pull. The car seemed to just bounce off the limiter...backed off the throttle to get it to shift. While cruising the car shift fine, but struggles @ WOT. I don't think the Tuner made any changes to the shift points or limiter. But I have attached the tune. Any help here is appreciated. Going back to a manual sounds good at this point LOL

I can't get your hpt file to open.
So you're doing 140+ mph pulls on the freeway???
If so, you're nuts. My hunch is that you're really in 2nd gear and you're actually having a 2-3 shift flare and 3rd gear slow engage instead...
3-4 clutch pack is toast.

I didn't know you couldn't do WOT pulls from 3rd to 4th. The last 10 years I've owned a manual car...down shifting into 3rd and letting the car blaze and shifting into 4th. I don't have any experience with Auto's. From what you guys are saying, I can only WOT 2nd to 3rd? That sucks. I like freeway pulls. @ Emulsifide, I was only @ 80mph when I down shifted. Maybe going auto isn't for me.
Thanks for the response.

Most likely what's happening is the input sprag is slipping on the downshift as it's not on in OD. When the sprag slips the 3/4 clutches take serious abuse. There are some that will argue that point, but I've seen my share of grenaded 60e's and know it's at least a contributing factor. This area of a 60e is is considered to be it's weakest point. There are companies that have designed quite a few components to resolve the inherent design flaws, but in the end they can only do so much.
In my opinion, the damage is done and it's only a matter of time before the 3/4 clutches are toast. Who built your transmission originally? If you are letting it see any boost at all in a WOT downshift scenario you are abusing it. Meaning, it was never meant to see that sort of power to weight ratio on a downshift, I don't care who built it. It simply isn't designed to do what you are asking it to do. Even the best well built, baddest 60e on the planet will fail if that type of driving is continued long term.
Ask the pros that build them every day and actually understand what they are talking about and you'll begin to understand my comments. Hope that helps.

Bullshit that you can't do a 3-4 full throttle up shift, or a 4-3 down shift. If the tranny is built right it will do it time and time again. The cost is the biggest factor $$$ 3-5k for a 60E that can do it.
I wouldn't do a full throttle down shift.
The up shift is ok. We are shifting ours into 4th at 6800.
On the street I shift from 4th to 3rd or 3rd to 2nd and hit it in roll races.
Note to OP this is with a built 60E no expenses spared.

That's right! That's exactly right. But, I'll tell you that 90% of the guys that will read this forum will go cheap and then complain when their "built" tranny fails. The internet is full of those threads let alone Tech.
So, while you would tout the performance advantages of a "no expenses spared" unit, I would tell you with confidence that it wasn't designed to take WOT downshifts at the sort of power the OP is making... period. And because of that, thee is undue stress taking place that will shorten the life expectancy of his transmission. And if it isn't a "no expenses spared" unit it will not survive 3/4 upshifts long term. But, that's exactly why I asked him who built his transmission originally.
We're on the same page, just different angles.
