Default T56 Synchros?

Okay I have a 2002 Trans Am, 5th gear has been gone since 50K miles, and 6th finally went at 77K miles. Would that be the 5-6 synchro?

You'll likely need to buy the 5/6 synchro assembly which is the hub, slider and blocker rings, and 5th and 6th gears.

Not the gears per say, but maybe the dog teeth on the gears. This may be the case if you can actually shift into 5th or 6th and things just seem to spin but you dont get any power to the ground. If it just wont go into those gears, its more likely the syncro hub, keys or blockers. Just going to have to take it apart and see because the damage will be obvious.

Grinding occurs when the shift sleeve teeth grind against the gear teeth because the blocker is unable to perform its function for various possible reasons. This grinding rounds the engagement teeth on both the slider AND the gear. If you've had much grinding at all, you'll be buying gears. If you just put in a synchro assembly with worn down gear engagement teeth, you'll be doing it again.

Take it to a professional. Many sponsors here would love the work.
