Keeps the pinion depth more constant, and helps with keeping the pinion from walking up the ring gear, as I understand it.

Solid Pinion Spacer does as SSCamaro99_3 stated, it will mantain constant ring and pinion settings
where as a crush sleeve may/will crush more after a/several hard hits allowing setting to change
I like to "do- er rite"

It makes setting up the gears a bit more time consuming, but for about $20, why not do it while you are in there.

How odd, I was contemplating just this. Damn crush sleeve on my spare 10 bolt rear is letting the pinion walk all over the place. So the consensus is there is no reason not to use a solid sleeve? I will be ordering one in that case!
