SLP facility
Hey guys,
I was just curious if anyone knows why my car was altered at Toms River SLP facility and not the Lasalle Quebec facility? I just happened to notice my SLP door jam sticker say the alterations were completed in the Toms River facility. Wouldn't you think it would make sense to alter at the Lasalle facility considering my car is staying in Canada?
Just thought it was odd and would be curious to know the reasoning. BTW my car is a early 99 Build (March). I thought all the cars were altered in Lasalle with exception of the pilot 98 Firehawks, which I know never actually had the option code WU6, and were altered in Toms River (to my knowledge)

I believe when a customer ordered a Firehawk or SS Camaro GM shipped the base T/A or Formula or Z28 to the SLP headquarters in New Jersey and they converted the cars and sent them back to the dealership. Not positive but I think all fourth gen f-bodies altered by SLP were done so at Tom Rivers, NJ.

Oh they were all sent to NJ? I guess another reason why I thought some went to Lasalle was the "Final days at Ste. Therese plant" video. I tried to find it but had some trouble. It has a caption about halfway through the video and shows a car load of SS's and it says it was one of the last car loads that came from the SLP facility in Lasalle? I was just curious. Its unfortunate that we don't have more info on our cars.

I'm not up on the Pontiacs, but all SSs got shipped over. Just the way it worked. GM did not have the production facility to accommodate the conversions in-house.

I got a tour of the St. Therese plant and then went to see the mods done at a separate facility to make them SS or WS6's. The SLP plant was about 20 miles from St Therese, in Quebec, not NJ. This was 2001 or 2001, prior to that I don't know where the cars were converted.

I thought all the base SS's and Firehawks were sent to SLP's facility in Quebec. That's where they would receive the hood, spoiler, and wheels, then if any other options were ordered then the car was sent to SLP's facility in NJ.

^ All componants that made up a base SS were done at the SLP facility in Quebec, and all additional SLP options were installed there too. I saw Eibach/Bilstein stuff, mats etc being added as per how the particular vehicle was spec'ed out.

to my understanding there was a Detroit slp facility where they were delivered to from 96 to 99, at that point they were fitted with base ss and options then sent back to gm plant. then after 99 the cars were fitted with base ss trim then shipped to slp for options then sent back to gm. now this is what i was told, so im probably wrong lol.

Haha well I appreciate all your input, seems like there is a different consensus on where the cars went for the SS/Hawk options, but interesting to hear your responses.
I guess a good way to check is to see if anyone has a SLP sticker for Lasalle Quebec, instead of Toms River, NJ.

I was watching a video on Youtube about SLP engineering and came across a solid answer. I don't know if "ALL" years were converted in Lasalle, but the video says the conversion was completed at a SLP facility that was 20 minutes away from the plant. It has a neat clip of inside the SLP facility about half way through.

the firehawks were all made at SLP...
The SS were only made there from 96-00, 01s and 02s were made on the assembly line... unless you ordered the SLP 245hp package or any SLP bolt on upgrades from what the guy told me when I went to buy my 02, I ended up buying a Z and making it an UltraZ so I wasn't gonna spend the extra$$$ for a hood that I wasn't keeping
