Default metal ring on rotor

the other day i was replacing my brakes on each rotor was a metal ring that looked like it prevented the rotor from moving. i will try to take a pic of it but i don't know what it's called. i thought it was a thread locker but all the ones i see are in a tube and not a ring. can anyone shed any light on what this thing is?

Just a factory retaining ring, many, many cars had them from the factory, upon the first rotor change they are thrown away.

(thats if you mean the little star washer thing over the wheel stud)

It wont affect anything. The wheel and lugnuts will clamp everything.

Those are only there as an assembly aid from when your car was built. They are to keep the rotors in place while the car was going down the assembly line. Tear them off and throw them away. They are not needed. As stated your lugnuts and wheel clamp everything together.
