Default Rear End Broken but baffling problem. Help

So I broke my 10 bolt the other night and I am trying to decide what route to take in fixing it.

Here is the condition of the rear as far as I know. It will move in reverse but it slips. I have almost no forward movement, I can move about 1mph but it never moves any faster. With the car jacked up and in park you can spin the wheels almost freely and the driveshaft doesn't move so I believe that means it is the rear and not the trans. With it in any forward gear it will spin the tires but you can stop them with your hands. In reverse you cannot.

The problem is I am FLAT BROKE, so I have to go the absolute cheapest route possible to get it running again. I know I should get a 12 bolt or a 9 inch but it simply is not an option right now.

What is going to cost me the least in the long run?

Having my rear rebuilt(not sure how this works or if it is a real option...)

or

Buying a used 10 bolt for about 200 and putting that in which I should be able to do with a little help.

Thanks

If you're not sure if it's the rear end why don't you open it up and take a look

Hey TwitchZ28 hit me up in a PM. You are really close to me (as in 10 mins away) My buddy and I have been parting out f-bodies since we were in highschool. I know we have a 3.23 4th gen rear end sitting around. I'll hook you up. Just give me a shout.

Yes,the most economical is putting in a complete used rearend.
Just gotta make sure it's 'channel' compatable to whichever system your car has.
3 channel ABS or 4 channel ABS & TC.

any noises when trying to drive? sorry but that doesnt sound like rear to me. id open it up to verify, you can spin rear wheels without driveshaft moving.

Yes we can spin the wheels without moving the driveshaft. and I would have 4 channel...does it matter if I don't really want TC? I mean like is the connector totally different or can I just have a hanging plus for tc that isn't plugged in?

putting a 3 channel complete rearend in a 4 channel car,you will lose TC AND ABS and the dash light for ABS & TC will be on.
A 3 channel rearend can be converted to 4 channel by swapping the axles and backing plates.

are all the 4th gen's rear ends interchangable? I mean besides the channel differences. Would any year 4 channel directly bolt into my 2002 Auto Z28 with factory 3.23s? I have abs and tc so it's a 4 channel

4 channel started in 1995.
Not sure about brake differences between 95-97 LT and 98-02 LS,somebody else will have to post to answer that.

Rear ends don't "slip" per se. Better verify thats your actual problem.

Just pop the diff cover. That's the best way to know for sure whether it's blown or not.

Unfortunately I am leaving state for a week and so I won't be able to break into it until I get back. I am just trying to figure it out in my head because it's driving me kinda nuts.

How are the rear ends set up on these cars? As in how many tiers were there? I know that I have GU5 so I have 3.23 gears, TC, and ABS, but I have no idea if it is a live axle, posi, lsd, whatever? Can anyone clear this up? Thanks

2002 Z28 would have a Torsen 'Torque sensing' differential.
