What To Mod Next
Hey, as of now im kind of stuck as to what my next round of mods should be my long term plans for the car puts it in to the 10’s as a show\ street drag car. On my current budget I can probably pull about 3-4k a year for the car… I was thinking my next mods should be the tranny but im not too sure if id benefit more form a head and cap package… the route I was planning on taking was torque converter , kit, larger cooler, then new hood then headers then a new rear end and drive shaft, then head n cap package or a 382 stroker package (or iron block with power adder) the problem I run into with this plan is when I get to the tranny it seems there is not good stopping point by this I mean that it seems like there is just a whole bunch of crap to replace and if ya just try to squeak it by with a kit and tc and cooler then when you delete torque management your goanna run in to longevity problems which seems to be not only dangerous (possible wreck) but will cause you to ruin other parts (torque converter) that didn’t need replacing if bits of your mashed tranny didn’t happen to cause them to malfunction… so one might say well that’s right so to do it right just rip the ****** out and replace it all but how much will that cost I see hi-po rebuilds run for like 2k but does this include the tuning and torque converter… ???? What’s the best way to go on this one im looking to build something that can regularly handle 600+hp because im regularly on top of my car and id don’t want to have to worry about it if I take this step …..

I would say first do headers, a converter, and LS1Edit (to tune these and all futur mods) that will work with whatever cam you think you want to do (call Thunder Racing). That will really get you moving down the track without ANY problems.
Next do the Heads and cam (that you decided on when you ordered the comverter). Now you have lots of HP and are making the most of your entire car.
Finally do the 12 bolt and tranny. The 10 bolt will hold out for quite a long time behind an auto (as long as you don't run slicks) and the stock tranny will take quite a bit. When the tranny does go, just rip it out and replace it with a built unit.
Up front I think your crazy to say you want 600+ HP and have NO worrys about lifespan (just won't happen). Even the best parts out there will eventually have problems with 550+ rwhp being dumped through them on a regular bassis.

but my question about the converter is most ive spoke with say you have to remove tq management if yu planning on stalling int he 3800 range and ive been told that removing tq management will burn up your tranny unless its built for it but buliding ofr it is upwarsd of 2500 dollars with converter form my understanding am i wrong ... cant i get a tranny built that will hold up to regular abuse lets say for a wlow 11 sec car why cant i just get it over engineered lets say able to run 9's

For starters they are 508 CI (basically 1 HP per CI). Then you move to they are a manual trans (the T56 seems to take A LOT of beating and the Viper box is a HEAVY DUITY version). Finally reach the rearend which is basically a Dana 44 and you understand why they can take 550HP day in and day out.
You can build a car that will take 600+ HP for a long time but all I'm saying is saying "I want tons of HP and no problems" is like people who say "I want a BIG cam but I want it idle on a stock tune".......

Damn..... 7 posts in a row..... I'm impressed. Just kidding man. Happens to the best of us. I go back and forth like that too when I'm talking about mods and my dilemas. Good luck with your project. Tear it up!

I would say the tranny will hold 450rwhp for quite a while (if your not "too hard" on it).
I still say your best bet is to figure out what size cam you WANT and go ahead and by a converter that will work with that. It might be a little much for your stock setup but it sets you up. Also get headers (I REALLY REALLY like my Hooker LTs though have them coated by JetHot) so you have the exhaust flow to support whatever cam you do in the future. You might even look into a set of heavy duity gears (I like my Richmonds), an Auborn Pro Posi , and a TA gurdle to beef up the 10 bolt rearend for a while (not to mention improve performance).
