Gen 5 Camaro External Bolt-On Tech - Picked up my 1SS yesterday

This is the quickest I ever got a car. I had been thinking about getting one for awhile, but never went to a dealer to look at one. I was on Chevy's website yesterday and looked up the inventory at my local dealer. They had a silver 1SS, manual trans with the RS package. I went to the dealer at 11:30am. They were offering $32,000 for the car, plus I had $1,000 in GM Card earnings I could use and another $1,500 rebate for having a GM Card. I had a 2008 Saturn Astra and figured trade-in would be terrible, but I asked anyway. They basically gave my $500 below what Kelley Blue Book said the car was worth for trade-in. At that point, I filled out the paperwork and went back to the dealer at 4:00pm to pick up my new Camaro!!! My last Camaro was an '02 that I probably got rid of in '04 or '05. So I have been going through withdrawal for a long time.
Now this is a bit odd to me. The RS package gives you the HID headlights which "replaces" the fog lights....? So now there are fog lights in the car that don't turn on?
So where do I start for power adders? I've been out of it for awhile. Let's say I have $1,000 to spend right now. What would be the best bang for the buck?
I'll also be getting the stripes put on it next week.

With the RS package, the fog lights become your daytime driving lights. Guess they figured it would be cheaper to service those bulbs then put all the extra time on the HID's.
If you intend to keep your power-train warranty for any length of time, you are limited on mods really. About the only worthwhile mod in my opinion is a good cold air kit. Anything else will require a tune and with that your warranty is gone. If you don't care about the warranty, longtubes and a tune are really going to wake the car up.

It seems these cars are more scienced out then the 4th's. Theres not any real free mods or even cut and dried positives, I highly doubt cold air systems are anything more then eye candy from most real dynos I've seen. I'm going to get a 12 second bone stock time slip before putting TSP long tubes on, these cars really respond to these as did my 4th gen. I think the kooks LT's were the best mod I did.
Just install headers and have a CEL for rear 02's or use sim's, any issues just re-install manifolds back on car and gain 25/25 minimum then get a CAI which may gain a little at 400rwhp. BTW, welcome. I've had my car for 3 weeks and I'm obsessed!

That is contrary to what dyno testing revealed here....

According to those charts the SLP CAI doesn't look so good. I would say Fastlane is the best, but they highly recommend a tune. I guess that would put Cold Air Inductions in first place.

My opinion only. Where is the gain? SLP blackwing intake/filter wouldn't submit their intake to this test because it nets no improvement. I suppose the cone filter is the 5 or so horse power since the airbox is in the same place. Just saying I'd spend 5 bills on LT's and see a monster gain then 3-4 bills and tell myself I feel a gain. That being said I will probably buy a vararam because if any improve power it does.

Just an FYI. A car with LT's may be on the lean side without a tune. Mine was according to Mike Norris.

not a power adder but id get a catch can, if you want proof drive the car about a 1000 miles if that then take off the TB and look inside the intake manifold. also some solo high flow cats if you dont plan on doing headers right away

A catch can?
Where do you get just high flow cats? I haven't seen them on the sites I've been looking at.

I second the catch can suggestion. I almost forgot about that. They work and are needed on all cars. Lots of info on the various forums. Mike Norris has a real nice can that he sells. He's a vendor on here.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to just drill out the current cats?

I hate to say this but that is allot of wasted money, the X pipe and axle back is NO gain! The cats will help, but I still would not wast money on them... get Lts and run the stock pipe into some mufflers of your choice. You will want the long tubes anyway trust me.

The exhaust is for the sound, not horsepower. The car is too quiet and I liked the sound of the Loud Mouth II on the '02 Camaro I had.

I used Gearhart in Denville. As for the rebate, it was something I received in the mail and was only good until the 5th. I would think it was for anyone with a GM card, but I am not really sure.

RS package has driving lights instead of fogs. They are on while car is on until you turn on headlights. You can turn them off by turning light knob to left one click.

You'll love it. I had a 1969 Camaro when I was 17 and my 2011 Camaro SS took me back 30 years the day I pulled it off the lot.
There are a lot of people out there that are jealous as hell about this car. I feel for them, if I couldn't afford one I would be sick about it. Its looks bad, it goes fast and everyone talks about them.

Congrats on the car, I just got my CGM 2ss rs a couple months ago and love it, I have only done electric cutouts on it to wake up the sound a bit. I have big plans for it but don't really want to void the warranty. And the fog lights thing is dumb. I'll be redoing Here pretty soon

Congrats on the cars guys, you will love it! I have had mine for 1 year and 2 months, I cant remember what I did yesterday but I remember driving this thing home for the first time! I sold my built 70 cutlass SX for this car, was very hard to do and dont regret it for anything! Everytime I drive it is the best part of my day! This is the first car I ever owned that I cant imagine selling for something else. I have had 15 cars in 17 years, almost a car a year :eek2: Enjoy guys!!!!
