So i was headed to work, i got into my car went to start it and nothing happened. Everything else is working as normal. I had the ignition switch and keys replaced about 6 months ago. The security light isnt flashing so i doubt its a vats problem. I replaced the big ign and starter fuses didnt make a difference. Any ideas? The last thing i can think of is to check the connections to the starter.

Yeah if it's not even cranking its most likely a connection problem. (starter)

Start with the easy stuff. Make sure the battery voltage is good, check the battery connections to be sure they're clean and tight.

What does your battery gauge say? Did you try jumping it?

try^^^^^ with battery jump if not, possibly bad connector at ign switch or check fuse.

I tried jumping it and nothing. There is no clicking from the starter. There is nothing happening at all. I checked all the fuses theyre all fine. So the only thing i havent checked is the connection to the starter.

What's the battery voltage? Put a digital meter on it at the terminals. I had one fail once and even the remote wouldn't open the car.

Interesting ... I just had the same problem today with my '97 all stock Formula. It started right up, drove about three miles with the radio on, no problems. Then when I got back in it to restart it again, it was totally dead. Tried jumping it and the best that I could get after 25 minutes was for it to click like the battery was low. It never turned over. Once I unhooked the jump, it went back to being totally dead. I am taking the battery out and putting it on a charger. The battery is only one year old. But if anyone has any experience in this and could lend a suggestion, I am sure open to any ideas. I haven't tried to find the connection to the starter as one of the members mentioned earlier. I wouldn't even know where to look. But given the fact that the jump seemed to make it a little better than totally dead, I am wondering if the starter isn't really the issue. Thanks for your thoughts!

I dont believe theres a problem with the battery. There is power to everything. Everything works like normal, but just when i turn the key to start it nothing happens, the starter doesnt do anything. I guess at this point im going to just have to get the car in the air and check the starter connections.

You can have some voltage and the lights, radio, etc. will work - but not enough amps to turn the car over. Check the connection if you want, but I'd eliminate the battery/connections first - most parts stores will do a free load test.

+1. It could still be the battery. What is happening at the battery gauge on the cluster? Even if you try to jump the car with a weaker/smaller car, it may not get the starter to click.

You could also have a bad starter... The only way to confirm is with a voltmeter. Check the battery, check the gauge, check the terminal at the starter and that should paint the picture.

Yes^^^^^ Start with voltage test..OR Take starter out and go AutoZone or parts store to have test..

you could try tapping on the starter a few times with a wrench or something and see if it starts

So i took the battery to Autozone they tested, and it was bad. So i bought a new one and thought the problem was sloved, nope i get home put the new battery in and again nothing happens when i turn the key. So at this point what do you guys think? Is it the starter? Or what else is left to check?

Happent to me yesterday, at gas station parking lot, turn out its the starter, have leave it over night and came back in the morning with new starter. I dont what talk about it

You have to try jumping it again with the new/good battery. Did you measure the voltage on the new battery when you got it home? It should be charged, but you should check that first.

I have a similar issue and have another thread going. One other thing it could be that I just found out is the starter relay. Try swapping it with the fan relay is what I was told to do. Battery, starter, alternator issues can be really confusing sometimes. I remember chasing a bad alternator once on a beretta. Took it off and had it tested, they said it's fine, tried all sorts of stuff, finally ended up taking to an alternator shop since it was close I was able to charge battery to get it up there, and they tested it on the car. Said they could see why on a bench they would see it as good, said it was a spotty condition. It was working at like half capacity. Replaced and all was well.

Check the starter relay under the hood. I've had this same problem and I ended up having a bad starter relay. As stated above, you can swap it with another to see if it will start.

sounds like a starter, i had the same issue and i ended up buying 2 starters and now i have an extra lol. i have a brand new powermaster starter if youd like, PM me
