Default Help picking next mod.

I have a 85 suburban with a lq4, 317 heads, edelbrock duel plane intake manifold, FAST EZ EFI, and duel exhaust and a mild cam. Was wondering what my next mod should be. I cant find long tube headers that fit a 4x4. Was thinking about 243 heads but arnt they the same a 317 heads? I need to keep low end power too. Any ideas. My cam is a ht1 from scoggin dickys.

No 243's are significantly better than 241's. if money permits do cnc 243's. Then make your own headers.

Yes they are. You could port the 241's and they would flow much better but you could buy a cnc 243 used for around 800-1000 used. Id fork the money for 243's if it were me.

On texas speed the 243 heads and 317 both stage one porting flow the exact same. They even cost the same. What makes them better? Not being an *** just trying to figure this out. Thanks.

Stock ls6 243's have sodium filled, and hollow valves so it can rev quicker and is easier on the valve train. You dont see 241's selling for $5-600 do you? No they go for like $200. my advice for you is to search on here and do some reading, their are numerous write ups about it. Stock I would choose 243's just my .02

Why does the 241 keep popping up? It was never an option. It is bettewen stage one 6.0 heads and the stage one ls6 heads from texas speed and performance. That is after i find a set of headers tho. No point in getting heads when i am using factory maniflods.

Lol sorry I keep thinking ls1 heads. If they flow the same then either is fine. both would show good improvement over stock. But
yes now would be A good time to get headers. Long tubes would creat more hp. You may have to make some yourself or order a header kit.

The best i can find right now that MAY fit are mid lenght. I think they are 28 inches long. Have to call them to see if they will fit. I could not figure out where the 241 heads came from. Even reread my post to make sure i did not say it.

If you can't fit a nice set of mid-length headers, maybe try some Borla
shorties, I noticed some power and mileage on a 99 Z71 w/5.3.
Also the 317 chambers are 71 cc compared to the 243s @ 64. Yes casting
wise they share runner volumes and shape which is why flow #s are similar
but you may want the 10.5 : 1 compression to compliment your cam and
add some low speed torque to move that heavy vehicle. BTW nice engine bay

The higher compression of the 243s will definitely wake it up.
