simple combo....lq4 / 243's / torquer v3 anyone recommend something different?
so i'm saving to build a n/a stroker but am going to put something together so i can finish my car and drive it for a season. i have a lq4 longblock. and am looking for a simple combo to put together and won't break the bank. the less i spend on it, the faster i can build the new motor.
car is a mustang (3,100lbs)
vic jr intake and pro systems carb
th400
4500 stall
4.10's
don't wanna fly cut the pistons. just would like a simple, proven combo that will run decent at the track. i've done a lot of research and have found a few guys running 243 heads and a tsp v3 cam without needing to flycut.
does anyone have a reason to use something different. or reccomend just milling the 317's i have down and throwing a different cam in. basically looking for best bang for the buck here.
thanks
mike

also, i pm'd him but hadn't gotten a response. i think his sn is zone89rs or something. he has a lq4, milled 317's and a trex. no ptv issues and has had his 3rd gen 7.0's already. that's a good start. i've like to get high ten's out of this setup and my car is lighter with an auto/high stall.
one of the other guys i saw with the v3 combo went 10.70's in his hatch fox which would weigh similar to mine. that's one of the reasons that got me on the 243 v3 combo idea

imo i would keep the 317 heads on there if your going to do a stroker ne ways. yea you wont make as much power now, but it will be the cheapest way to get it running, plus the heads are damn near the same. you can always spend the extra money on spray in the mean time besides a 3000lb car is plenty fun with as much power as that combo will make

i hear ya. but 300 for a set of heads to raise the compression isn't gonna break the bank if it helps the performance. i have to get some springs anyways, and deals always come up for some used heads with springs already installed.

I have an LQ4/243 with a TQv3 and it runs excellent. I have ran 11.5 @ 119 mph in a 3000 lb race weight rx7 at over 4000 ft elevation. It went 11.3 @ 122 mph at just over 2000 ft elevation.
In my case, there was definitely room for a larger cam but it runs too well to change.

thanks for the input
mxjs: what gear do you have? auto?
i emailed a few of the sponsors asking if they recommended one of their cams. i got one response so far. ms3/ms4 was recommended if heads are still stock thickness and valves. so that's a good contender. we'll see what the others have to say.
thanks
