Default cross breed slp and stock lid with pics!

i wanted to share this because i know many of you have had problems with cracking lids and the fittment issues they are known for. basicly i used the top of the slp lid and the base of the factory lid and fused them together. with a little finnishing work and a base coat/clear coat paint job this is the final product. if you have experience in plastic repair im sure you could do this too.

We need a write up.

A small write up or list of materials used would be nice if you had one. I would like to try this to get my SLP lid to actually seal

very nice, thats an awesome idea. The only thing i could suggest is to maybe paint the base of the lid to that same glossy finish? I imagine that would look better so you wouldnt see that change from shiny on top to flat black on bottom.

Awesome! I'm glad to see someone do this! I've been kicking aorund the idea of trying this since I got my SLP lid, since it fits like crap. I've just been hesitant to cut the lid up and screw it up.

Yours came out super clean looking, very nice!!

Too bad LS1 Motorsports wasn't still around...back in '00 I had one of those lids on my '98, nad I don't remember any fitment issues.

I didn't know the SLP lid was that bad.

I have had their carbon fiber whisper lid on my car since 1999. No problems, seals great, I must have taken it on/off a thousand times over the years. Still going strong after all this time. I didn't know I had a piece of gold in that lid.

I have a LS1 Motor Sports lid on my car. After 10 years and over 230,000 miles it still fits good but the snout is starting to crack. I guess that I will have to get another to replace it. Who has the best fitting lid on the market now days?

yeah, i agree. it was a last minute decision to go with the base/clear. i was originally going to paint it satin black so it would match but decided not to. looks like i have more work ahead of me.

I like it, but then again my SLP lid fits well too.
Even if it didn't, it wouldn't matter anyways. It's sealed with 3/8" door sealer foam strips on the inside of the lid.

Crisis averted.

I tried that, but the clips wouldn't stay down. Spent an hour sealing everything up with the foam, then Ioculdn't get thelid to stay down enough to latch the clips. D'oh! I ended up having to rip most of it back out.

Even the thin layer of Gorilla tape I have sealing the airbox to my FTRA causes the clips to pop off occasionally.
