Default Getting a free (dead) 5.3 truck motor - Swappable parts?

Sorry if this is the wrong forum guys.

Not sure of the damage, but I am getting a complete 5.3 motor, aside from sensors, coil packs and rails. Is there anything I can swap over to my 5.7 LS1 Camaro, performance wise? Intake, heads, etc..?

Btw, I may be getting two motors. So I may just build one if repairable between the two motors (assuming I get both motors).

Although I still haven't confirmed it is indeed a 5.3 and not a 4.8, Im sure the 4.8 would still have something to offer, correct?

Sorry for being so noob. TIA

Everything swaps over. You would have to run your intake and oil pan and also accessories because of clearance issues.

if youre curious and dont know, the bore is the same on the 4.8 and 5.3. 5.3 has the same stroke as the 5.7.

Also, the 5.3 and 4.8 can be bored out to the 3.9" bore in ls1. So its possible to make an iron ls1.

Oops, I didnt mean to imply that I want to move over to the 5.3. I just wanted to know if there are any parts transferable to the LS1 (stock 5.7) for any gains. Where does the intake clearance issue lie? I will be getting a 4" cowl soon, but I suppose in my luck, it would be under the windshield would be the issue. Heads? Injectors? Anything?

Sorry I misunderstood....Are you asking if there are better parts on the 5.3 then on your LS1? The answer would be no.

The 5.3 heads, if worked a little, will give you similar flow as the ones you have now with a little bit more compression...so that could be worthwhile doing.

If the 5.3l's are new enough 2005/6 and up they might have the 243/799 heads which are worth 200-400 a pair. There really isnt anything worth swapping over to a LS1 from a 5.3L. The truck intake looks nothing like a LS1 intake. The truck intake is really tall. Kinda looks like a miniature 6-71 blower housing. The crankshaft does have the same stroke but the trucks crank is an entirely different part compared to the LS1. The snout sticks out farther on the truck crank and its weighted for 5.3l pistons only. The truck accesorry bracket stick the farthest out forward toward the radiator when compared to the f-body and corvette brackets.

I am in the midst of building a LS1 iron block with a truck 5.3L engine.

There is if you take a 5.3L lm7 and bore it to 5.7l specs. Call it what you want......... 5.7l is a 5.7l.

only difference is the block material.....I even have a set of 799's to stick on it. It isnt like im the first to ever do this. Hell, how many magazines have done it...how many on this forum let alone other have done it. P..A..L

So by sticking 243s on it would it be an iron "LS6"???? Thats ridiculous. What you will have is a 5.7 LM7 with 799 heads. No more no less.

Damn dude. don't get caught up in people generalizing engine names or codes.. If you are "in to that" You might want to jump on all the people who refer to their LQ4/LQ9/LY6 as "iron LS2"

some truck coils are considered better.you can sell the blocks to be bored out.

Exactly my point. A lm7 5.3, ls1 alum 5.7l and even a 4.8l all have the same dimensions on the block an head. Only "real" difference is valve size and bore/stroke size.
Hence the reason they are called GENERATION 3 engines.....all of the ones listed above......

Of course we can get into the generation 4 engines which yield the same displacement....and squable over all that....but why?

Ok, I still see posts of people talking about putting 5.3 heads in thier Fbody. Why, if it makes it worse? What am I missing here?

If ported the 5.3 heads will bump compression on a ls1 and do some good. I know a few people with ported 5.3's on their car and my car has Patriot 5.3's
