Default What's this and can I dremmel its guts out?

We don't have this sensor (???) on LS1s, and if I had to guess by the yellow color of the connector, I'd say it's airbag related.

I want to use it to mount one or two of my nitrous solenoids, like the NOS 5177 kit. Can I safely gut it?

Yep, that's the front airbag sensor. If you remove it entirely, your entire SRS system will be disabled, so just be aware. Pull the airbag fuse prior to removing it.

I'm starting to wonder if I should remove the airbags since they are now 15 years old...

IIRC, on later models the front airbag sensor is located elsewhere, but I forget where. You probably didn't notice it.
