12 Second Club - I want to be in the 12's

Just bought a 2001 trans am with an LS1 with 101,000 miles. It's an automatic but I want to have something to do this winter with my dad so when I have my full license next year I can drive the trans am down to the strip, run low 12's, and drive home at the end of the day. What do I need exatcly to run 12's? Part numbers would be nice but I don't want to bolt on a supercharger or anything like that. I won't be doing much of the work on the LS1 engine as it's pretty foreign to me but I sure know how to drive. Also, I would like to get a shifter to replace the stock one. Maybe one where I can still have an automatic but I can slam it from 1st to 2nd and so on. Thanks!
Get a stall and you'll be in the 12's.

For high 12's get a 3600 stall convertor, then go down to the local pick and pull and grab a pair of f-body 16 wheels ($40) and throw some hoosier or Mickey Thompson 245 60 15's on them. ($400)
For low 12's or even a high eleven in near negative DA just do bolt ons and a tune.
Motor
Good cold air intake like the Chris1313 or FTRA $200 ish?
Lid $90
Get your Throttle body port and polished for $65
You already have an LS6 intake (FREE!)
Headers/ORY $600-$700
Cat Back $350 ish
Manual cut out for at the track $50
Mail order tune from "Frost" for $125 to tie everything up.
Tranny cooler $70 ish (extend life of the tranny)
Truck Tranny pan at pick and pull $? (deeper pan, extends life of the tranny)
Suspension
panhard bar $130 ish
Lower control arms $180 ish
Lower control arm relocation brackets $60 ish
Sub frame Connectors $284
Torque arm with trans tunnel mount $270ish
You'll have a nice reliable 12 second car (maybe even squeeze out an 11.9 in good DA and some weight taken out.
Could also add
$600 Rear QA1 Double adjustable drag shocks
$470 Front QA1 drag springs (275lbs) and Front adjustable Shocks
later down the road if you are having traction problems or having trouble hooking up with that 100shot later ;)

My car did a 12.6 with mods in sig MINUS the 3600 stall. -1000 da on hoosier drag radials. Same car did 13.1 in +2000 da
In late fall with drs, ssra, lid its close and you could get 12s. Add full exaust to that combo and you should have 12s no problem.

I already have the LS6 intake, I also have a cold air kit and flowmasters. We are getting pace setter headers with 1/3 quarters going to 3 quarters. We are also getting a polyurethane tranny... something.... I can't remember but with the stock one, whenever I smash the gas hard I hear something that sounds like it's going to break. And it sounds like I need a stall... After that I think I will be good. There is some guy here in the Kansas City area who takes out the stock computer and puts in a custom one to make it faster. Oh and we are getting drag radials on 17x9.5 wheels and we are getting an aftermarket suspension so I can hookup and gooooo :D

and can I get a part number or something for the stall convertor? I understand that a stall lets you take off at like 3000 something depending on the stall but what kind should I have for everyday driving and for the strip as well? I want a reliable product preferably. Thanks guys

I'd go either Circle D or Yank on the converter.
Here is a link to the circle d converter. I dropped 7 tenths in the 1/4 mile with my Circle d converter and it's by far the best mod I have done so far.

You should go with the 3000-3200 option. You will also need a transmission cooler with your stall. Go to the automatic transmission section and do a search and you should find what you want. If you don't have a cooler your trans will not last long with a high stall FYI

Sounds like your stock transmission mount is broken and your transmission is smacking the car. Btw you don't want to just swap in a "custom" computer in. There are many great mailorder tuners you can go though over the internet. I'm a beleiver in pcmforless. I always see about 2-3 tenths reduction after a tune. Also when you order the tune you will feel out a mods list so they can tune your car for what you have done. So get all your bolt-ons done before you get the tune or you will have to keep getting it retuned and that will add up quick. As for drag radials I would go with the nitto 275 555r's. They are cheap, have good tread wear for a dr, hook pretty damn good, and don't do to bad in the rain. Goodluck!

Ok so I need nittos, then I'm getting pace setter headers, then it sounds like I need a stall and a tranny cooler. And after all that I will take it to the guy here in KC to finish the job with the computer. I'm not sure exactly what he does, my friends just told me about him so I will have to check it out. And will a 3000-3200 stall be ok for everyday driving? Go Cheifs btw :D Oh I have a Grannatelli motorsports lid on my engine. So I assume that is the cold air induction kit.

Nice numbers I have been looking for a car with similar mods to compare my new tune times with. I ran a best of 12.77 @ 107 1.97 60ft before tune with a -700 DA. I ran a 12.88 @ 108 1.99 60ft after tune with 2400 DA. Times corrected where low low 12.5s by ur DA number compasion thats damn close.
How are you likeing the 3600 stall?

I love the ss3600. Its an awesome all around street/strip converter. It will still spin the tires a few times on the street with the mt drs on hot ass pavement. I will for sure get 11s this fall. Great converter :D
