1995/96 corvette or ls1 trans am/camaro
I have a chance at buying a 1995/96 corvette or an ls1 trans am/camaro. What is the advantages or disadvantages of each one. Which one would handle better with the best suspension on each one, which rides smoothest, what is the difference between 0-60 and 1/4 mile. Which would be better or cheaper to mod?

As previously stated, the F-Body will be cheaper to mod than the Vette. If you're intent on getting a Vette, however, forget those LT1 models and go for a C5. My first Z28 was a '93, and I added an LT4 top end and a turbo kit, and I loved it, but the LS1 simply makes more power mod for mod.

The late C4s were very good cars as they had most of the bugs worked out and are formidable in stock form to this day. However, the LSx is a far better engine overall and the F-body will be far cheaper to modify. Neither will ride smoothly and both can be made to handle extremely well.

Yeah, I would go for the F-Body, wouldn't even consider a C4 over one. Like previously stated, it's going to be cheaper to mod and it's generally going to respond better to those mods as well. Now, a C5 would be a different story but those cars seems to be in a different price range when compared to the LS1 F-Body's and C4's.

The C4 has an advantage if you want it to handle. Like everyone said though, the LS1 f-bodies will make more power, be cheaper to mod, respond better to mods and can be setup to give the C4 a run for it's money in the handling dept as well.
Honestly, if I were serious about a vette on a budget I'd look at a higher mileage, early C5. I've seen some in the low teens dollar wise. Same power as the LS1 f-bodies, responds the same to mods, will handle better and will be better built. Only down side is the "vette tax" on parts.

I've driven a C4 Vette, and I'll take my F-Body over it any day.
Yeah, it doesn't have prestige of saying you own a Vette, but it's a better car.
Maybe it was just the particular C4 I drive, a '93, but that thing was horrible...I thought the F-Body rode bad, this thing was so stiff the car sounded like it was going to shake itself to pieces. Also the interior looks cool from adistance, but very dated once you get inside it, and with the hugely wide and tall door sills, it's a PITA to get in and out of.
I was kind of sad actually...I was test driving it because I was thinking of buying a C4 at the time, bu that car soured me on the whole idea. I went back to looking for an F-Body and bought my Formula shortly after.
Unless it was a ZR1, a '96 Gran Sport LT4 or Special Edition LT4 (all were silver, IIRC), I wouldn't even consider a C4 over any LS1 F-Body.
It's cool to be able to say you own a Vette, and I actually like the look of the later C4's, but other than that, I don't think they're that great a car.
Like what was said above, I'd take a high mileage C5 over a C4 anyday too. C5's are coming down in price, you should be able to get one for around the same price as a really clean WS6.
