Default help! 3.90's or 3.73's

ok guys..got a procharged SS..i have more than enough power to run into the 10's...i have only ran as fast as 11.3 but have done BOOCOO mods since then..so i'm thinking it may already run a 10 on my next track outing...but i will be doing a 9 in or 12 bolt real soon( i'm still running the 10 bolt with 3.23 gears) and need help deciding wich gears are best...either 3.90's or 3.73's...this car is my daily driver and it has a built 4L60E with a 3000 TCI stall..it averages low 1.61 60ft times already...the gas milage part does'nt bother me..what i want is the most effective gear for drag racing and street racing from a roll race??...tell me what you think guys...thanks ahead for all the info

heres a vid of me cutting a mean 60ft already with the 10 bolt and 3.23 gears on an 11.4 pass

Default gears...

What's your rpm at the end of the track, whatever gears you need are dictated by the rpm in drive, at the end of the track, lets say, if your top of the power ban is 6,800 rpm, thats where you want to be at the end of the track. So lets say you now are going true the traps at 5,400 rpm, you can benefit from a taller numerical gear ratio, in this case 3.90....

If you have the traction and you can borrow a 3600 or a 4000 stall conv, and a set of 3.90 gears you will be well in to the 10s...

I would go 3.73. You don't need a large gear to lift the front wheels.

thanks man...seems one cant' go wrong with the 3.73 gears when using the 4L60E...but will 3.73 allow me to drop the most time in the quater or will the 3.90's do me a lil better?

Default

Step 1) Use a gear calculator
Step 2) Make a parts list
Step 3) Calculate Value of Said List
Step 4) Calculate Labor to install Said List
Step 5) Put that much money in a mason jar, labeled "9 inch fund"
Step 6) Buy a 9" that won't take a **** on you.
