Default Quick air filter question..

So I've heard the K&N filters seem to foul out the mass air sensor.. Oil from the filter gets the mass air dirty and hold dirt etc. What filters are you guys using and is this true what I've heard? Thanks!

Purolator paper.

And yes, it can happen, particularly if you over-oil the K&N, but it's possible using the regular amount of oil (goes in wet, comes out dry, where'd the oil go? same place the air did).

Yes, according to numerous people on here, the MAF does get messed up from a K&N and there is nothing to gain from using one. Just get a lid, port your TB, and use a regular old paper filter. (p.s. Use the search option, TONS of writeups on this topic!!)

Regular Paper filter will do just fine, no hp increase from the K&N filter except its cheaper overtime. Yes it may happen not only to the K&N filter, but to every other filter that is cleaned using oil. Careful appliance will solve it.

If I didn't have the nostrals on my car sealed to the air box I'd probably go back to a paper filter. I drive my car in the rain so an oiled filter works better for me.

With that being said. Never had a problem with the Maf, dirty air, or whatnot.

I'm using a Holly Powershot which I did notice has a better filter element than the K&N.

Im using regular fram filter. I replace it every year. I hardly drive my car much, and i just recently replaced the filter and it was hardly dirty at all. I mean i could have just used it still but i purchased a new filter.

I dont notice a differnce as far as performance goes.

I had K&N for a while and feared the oil problems with the MAF. Recently switched back to paper this time to WIX.
A little harder to close the lid due to the thick seal the wix filter has but with that I believe it does seal better.
I think that completes the car for having all wix filters.

Wix are in link with amsoil and napa.

mostly its the misuse of the oil applied on the K&N, not saying that it has a noticeable gain or anything but it wont mess your maf if you use it correctly..i love the fitment of K&N too!

I believe it depends on the application of the oil to the filter.
Directions explain to spray the oil lightly on to the oil filter.

What exactly is lightly?

I mean I have tried to spray the filter lightly and then come back to it after I have let it set up for a while to install it and it looks like there isn't any oil present. This is probably a good thing, meaning the filter is doing its job and absorbing the oil. So then your left with the question did I apply enough oil or should I add more? When you add more you do run the risk of over soaking the filter and I am sure because of K&Ns High performance flow that not all of the oil gets stuck and absorbed into the filter, leaving some to escape and potentially coat the MAF sensor.

Either way I felt when I applied the oil after cleaning the filter I could never get a good consistent layer to cover the entire filter.

I am also more dependent on my MAF with the current tune I have. I need those sensors to stay clean. If I lose the MAF communication going down the road I could be in trouble.

I have also concluded that I prefer the added filtration the paper filter provides over the added performance the K&N gives. So much sand and dirt on the dry Texas roads.

Purchase and use the cheapest paper you can find. It will work just as good as the most expensive exotic air filter scheme on the market.

Spend the money elsewhere.
