Hey I am in the middle of getting one of these cars and had a few questions. On a completely stock car. Could I just add a cam shaft? Or should I do other mods first like lid and cat back exhaust?

And can I just add a cam and not heads? Or do you have to do both at the same time? Also what type of gains would I see with a decent cam that wouldnt really compromise street driveability all that much?

Thanks and sorry for being a newb but we all have to start somewhere.

-Josh

-Josha lot of guys do cam only.our heads flow really good,so you can find a lot of power with just a cam swap.as far as a cam that will give you good power and street manners,it depends on your car and what you've done to it.is it an a4 or an m6?to get the most out of a cam,you will need to install headers and a good aftermarket catback so your motor can breathe.with long tubes and a free flowing exhaust i've heard of some people gaining almost 40 rwhp with a tr224@112 .581 lift on a m6 car.the tr224 is about the best street/strip cam out there IMO.
i would suggest doing some research on here and there's a cam review thread on ls1.com that will help you out.

first of a cam should NOT be your first mod, period. on a stock car with just a cam you'll gain dick. if a4 get a new stall first and foremost, then follow the usual bolt on regime. go to the external forum and read my sticky at the top of the page.

its going to be an m6, thanks for the info. So basically do bolt ons like lid and cat back, then cam?

it depends on what your looking for and what your goals for your car are? but yes bolt ons are good place to start.

Lid, free mods, catback, headers, LS6 intake, then cam + tuning

That is the usual route people take.

You can do an electric water pump and a new throttle body and plug wires and thermostat and a hundred other things that you'll learn about if you hang around here for a while.
