Default Another y-pipe Q--SLP Headers are 3", why is Y only 2 3/4"

I cannot believe what I just discovered! When I called SLP and ordered SLP longtube headers (#30053) for my 2002 Firehawk, I was assured the y-pipe was 3"! WHO IN THE WORLD WOULD MERGE TWO 3" headers, & 3" Y-PIPES into a single 2 3/4" on the outlet end of the SLP y-pipe?

This is insanity! Don't I defeat the purpose of spending almost $1000 for headers and a new cat back system that is suppose to be more freer in moving the exhaust?

It seems to me, I will need to have my expert muffler man, custom cut and replace SLP's mistake! Why can't you get a straight answer from them when you want to buy something?

I am done buying SLP stuff, I have had too many screw ups at their end because I am not an every day mechanic. I know I asked the right question, trouble is, I didn't think anyone would build a y-pipe for 3" headers, and then merge the two 3" into a single 2 3/4" outlet!!!

I'm thinking the y-pipe is 2 3/4 because of ground clearance issues but don't worry about the diameter because I think you'll be happy with the way these headers perform.

Because the stock cat-back's I pipe is only 2 3/4" and it has to work with it. Plus the stock Y pipe collector is made for a 2 3/4" pipe and most aftermarket catbacks have to mount to it (they start as 2 3/4" then expand to 3"). Therefore their 3" Y must shrink to 2 3/4" to fit most apps.

FWIW my Kook's 3" Y's collector shrinks to 2 3/4" on the end to fit the catbacks too.

Someone unhappy with SLP? Shocking!

Seriously though, you can get it fixed if its that big a deal. Or send it back to slp and have a muffler shop make you one. Price should be comparable.
