Default Remove Brake Backing Plates From 9"???

I'm trying to get the backing plate and e brake off of the 9" rear. I'm guessing I might need to remove the axles first. How exactly do you remove the axles. I did read a post where someone said to just tap them out with a hammer, but that didn't work for me. Do I need to open up the rear first for something?

If it is a Moser nine inch you need to unbolt the brake backing plates first. Bob

I was thinking there is no way I could get any kind of wrench in there. Now that the rear is off the car this should be fun. Do you use a flexible box end wrench?

Remove calipers, remove rotors, remove the 4 15mm bolts that hold the backing plate to the axle tube. gently tap out the axle. After the axle is out you must remove the bearing/wedding ring assembly. Then the backing plate with come off.

My big question is how do you get to those 4 backing plate bolts?

i believe we used just a regular old wrench.....
some of the bolt heads on mine were ground round to fit the contour of the tube,so on some i used the box end & open end for the others.....

With the brakes removed and including the parking brake pads they can be reached rather easily.

Ah, okay! I'll have to take a closer look again, as I didn't see a way to remove the parking brake pads. How is that done exactly?

Pull up on them. Trust me when I say they are harder to put back on than they are to get off..

Ok, now how do I get the axle bearings off? Do I need to take the axles to a shop?

Thanks for you help so far.

Yes a press would be the best/correct way to remove them.
