Question guys who have had 3:90s and/or 4:11s in a M6 with a 9" i got a question

I'm going to be doing a gear swap in a few weeks and want to bump up the gear ratio which will be a better choice...car is a full bolt-on 01 ss M6 its my everyday car that will see some track but mostly street car already has a moser 9in with a detroit tru trac posi 31 or 35 spline axels with 3:70 gears with 18x9.5" motorsport Z06 wheels all around in the near future it'll have a 233/239 cam only with maybe a 100shot on it so which gears will be best I'm a newbie at gears thanks guys.

I had 4.10s in the car before the 9in went in. Felt great, loved the speed on the street. However, I was running out of gear with 26in tall tires at the track, 6400 rpm in 4th going through the traps, red line at 6500. Went to 3.89s with the 9in and feels the same, if not a little better. I figure if I add any power, I'd have to shift to 5th with the 4.10s in the 1/4, with the 3.89s I'll have some room to grow. With your 100 shot, you'll need the 3.89 if you're staying on 26in tall tires, you can do 4.10s if you're going to 28in tall or so.

3.89 for sure with those tires... if you ever put more power to it also the 3.89 gear will work well with a set of 27-28 inch drag tires. the more power you make the less gear you need.

These posts are right on ... I am running 4.10's with an M6, but plan on 28's for the 1/4. If my wallet (actually wife) allows, I will go 26's on a second set of rears for the 1/8. I have an 1/8 mile track 40 minutes from my house.

Cool thanks I don't want to run outta gear or shift into 5th at the track so I'll go with the 3:90s my next question is is it a big jump from the 3:70s I currently have in there now and will I feel the difference and what brand of gear would be best I don't mind the gear whine I've gotten used to it by now with the ones I have now lol

Depends on what track you go to. 1/8 or 1000' is great with 4.10s. Back home, there's a 1/8 very close to home (10 minutes). Around here in Arkansas, there's only 1000' strips. I'm getting a 4.10 12 bolt soon, going to be running on my 315/35/18 Toyo DR which is a 26" tire.
