Tools & Fabrication - Feel like an idiot... How do I use this o2 sensor removal tool?

Just picked it up and noticed the design is freakin weird compared to what I'm used to

So do I need some special socket wrench or what? :bang: Fuuuck I hate having to ask this haha

Looks to me as if the tool can use a hex style or star bit.

What's wrong with using an adjustable wrench?

Well just got them off with a crescent wrench instead. Waste of $6 I guess. Now I'm really mad though, I went with everyone's suggestion of NTK Corvette rear sensors for the fronts, and just realized the connectors are different... Raging pissed right now, waited over two weeks for these to get here after a shipping blunder on the sellers part now this...
The vettes connectors are 4 in a row, like this
oooo
while the stock Fbody ones are like this
oo
oo
So now I'm not sure what to do...
Thanks for your responses though guys :)

You needed to get the c5 rear o2 sensors. Not c6. Bosch 13111s are the right connectors.

I did get the c5's though :bang: I don't understand at all. It was part number 21006
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/NGK-21006/
I didn't order them from summit, wish I had now, I would have seen the difference in the connector and knew something was up. It says these work on the c5 corvette up to the year 2004, which after they started making the c6s. It also says it works on the 3.8Ls

Aw shit now I see what the problem is. They are for the Corvette front left and right banks and I meant to get the rear sensors, part # 21537, not 21006. Well fuck, now I have to box them back up and return them to the shipper

Edit: I see you got it off by other means, please ignore my post.

No no that was awesome help! But what's up with that star thing then?

the star lets you put it in in multiple positions, so you can use a breaker bar and put some force on it instead of abusing a ratchet. The reason for the offset bit is to give you someplace to put the pigtail.

Oh shit I see that now! I'm not sure I understand why exactly they felt the need to make two overlapping squares, wouldn't 1 be just fine? I saw online they had some where it was only 1 square. Sorry if I'm acting a little slow here, bear with me I'm an inexperienced teenager :bang:

If you have to use a 'breaker bar' to remove the sensor because it is so tight, & the position of the hex/O2 or the square/bar, isn't in just the right place to have leverage, ..., the overlapping squares give you another option for the bar placement to get some leverage for your pull.
Chalk it up to, "It's a learning experience".
They rent that tool at autozone. Its just a 7/8 wrench though...just use that

Why do people always assume that?? You could not be further from the truth. A regular open end will spread most of the time and round off the 02. The only way to do it otherwise is to clip off the connector and use the box end, but if the sensor isnt bad, then you just made a costly mistake... 02 specific wrenches are similar to a flare nut wrench, but have about 10x the mass in them so they wont spread.
FWIW, blue point(snap on) makes a cheap high quality version similar top the above for $30, but it's machined with closer tolerances, and is forged from a better quality steel, the oems look like cast steel...

Yea I tried taking my 02s out of my stock exhaust when I went with headers just for the heck of it (already had new ones) but a wrench wouldn't budge them. I definitely see the use in a good o2 socket. Just didn't buy one cause I threw the old parts away.

hurr durr, I'm a teenager just starting out with this shit so maybe you should sit down and be quiet and go back to trying to sound cool and funny on another forum. I said the thread is old, you said it's less than a month old, I said no it is not, it was created over a month ago, therefore you are wrong so you can leave now

Maybe you should take your own advice, grow up and realize that you are just a teenager, who himself was trying to be funny and doesnt know how the world goes round... I was never wrong, the topic was less than 1 month old FROM THE LAST POST. Why the fuck would I go find another forum, maybe you should crack open a couple technical books and have some kind of knowledge base before you start e-thuggin.

That's a 3/8 duel pattern on the end not a star bit. You unplug connector and then slide this scoket over. Loosen and review review reinstall. Simple as that

try using a cresent wrench *shivers* or an open end wrench on a FWD V6 car where the O2 sensor is between the firewall and engine

How did you possibly get the interpretation I was trying to be funny? I was merely pointing out how stupid you were acting. You were wrong, get over it. You can't seem to let it go, stop being a baby about it. The topic itself is over a month old. I said old thread, the thread itself is over a month old. I can't believe you are seriously making such a big deal out of this, grow up

Only person making a big deal out of this is you. Again for the third time, I still am not wrong... At all. Did you happen to eat leaded paint chips as a kid or something? Would explain a lot.

Wrong again. All I said merely and innocently was the thread was old. You were like "LESS THAN A MONTH IS OLD? WOW" I jokingly responded with a "tsk tsk" and you WAY misinterpreted that and got overly butthurt about it. Plz go, you were wrong before and you're wrong now

This is some funny shit. You're the one who brought up the age of the thread (which starts the argument), you make personal attacks against the OP even as he admits he is young and has no idea what he is doing, and then you have the audacity to say the OP is the immature one making a big deal out of this. Wow. If you really were the adult you wouldn't have even brought it up, let alone prolonged this pissing match as far as you did. Of all the stupid things I've seen posted on this forum this is high up on my list.
Just a little piece of advice, when someone begins a post with lol they probably aren't being serious anyway. The fact that you provided a very serious answer to a facetious post is funny.
