Smile Ran My 98 LS1 Trans Am on the Dyno

Thanks to Andrew at Complete Street Performance in West Chester for the help with my car last night. We found the car to be running very well as it was, so no tuning was really needed. Decided to do 3 dyno pulls. Ended up with 308 hp and 320 lb. ft. on my best run. Figure with a "20 %" drivetrain loss the motor is putting out around 369 hp and 384 lb. ft. of torque. Temps were 90* and 40% humidity:

I'll post a video or two of it later today when I get home.

My ss put down 316rwh and 332rwtwith same mods over a year ago. With the drivetrain loss = to be up around 370 motor hp...if I knew then what I knew now I would have done 1 7/8 lts and 4" y to 4" catback all the way through. Or just slap some duals on the headers. To bad I have to redue my whole exhaust like that now lol. But hey live and learn right?
So thats my mod advice to you.

That catback probably isn't doing you any favors on the dyno either.

If the A/F is in the 12.2 range, there's tuning to be done.

It'd be $300 for the tune at that point and he said he couldn't get much more out of it. He said I'd be better waiting 'til I do some more mods. I'm debating an LS6 intake manifold, Y-pipe w/ cutouts, and possibly some shorty headers. All if time/money allow. I'd rather pay $300 after those parts than with my current mods.

Don't get shorties. Get long tubes. Best bang for your buck: TSP LT's. They are kind of a pain to install, but well worth it. If you don't get the TSP's just get pacesetters. No matter what get the TSP ORY though. No other y-pipe flows as well and it has quite a bit of adjustability.

You will regret shorties and I've seen chokemaster hold up as much as 13 horse and gobs of torque but with your cutout it wouldn't matter long tubes for the win .

The flowmaster is not nearly restrictive as teh internet says! I have seen h/c/i ls1 cars only gain 3hp going from flowmaster to open cutout. I would like to see some proof of your claim that it "holds up" 13hp and gobs of torque? There could of been other contributing factors showing that kind of gain such as different dyno, different conditons, heat soak...etc.

op* I think your numbers are about par for your mods...I also agree that leaning it out might free up another 5hp or so. 12:1 afr is pretty rich for na.

Thanks for the info guys. I'll look into the ORY & some LT's once money frees up. I'm making another vehicle purchase prior to winter and need some extra cash for the OBX late this month.
