Default is it a trans am?

i went and looked at what the guy said was a 98 ws6 the other day. is had all the physical features of a ws6, but i looked on the RPO, and it didnt have the ws6 in it, and on the title it had firebird formula. He said that in 98, they did not list it as a T/A on the title, is he correct? If so, what year did that change.

Thanks,

No idea about the title. I could care less what the state thinks it knows about my car.
But on the rpo list, no ws6 means its definitely not ws6.
Rpo WS9 says its at least a base model v8. All pontiac fbody ls1 cars have this rpo.
Rpo Y82 says that car is the trans am package.

Both WS9 and Y82 (v8 model with trans am package) rpo's will be on the door if it is a trans am.

Ws9 and w66 (v8 model with formula package) will be on the car if it's 'only' a formula.

True about the titles for most all of the years on the 'Trans Am'.
It's a Formula based car with the 'Trans Am' option.

Search around here for the words "Title" & "Formula" & you'll find that it has been mentioned many times.

Run the VIN on the compnine.com site & you can find all the RPO codes that came with the car. But as answered & noted above, if no WS6 on the RPO code sticker on the door, then not a WS6 optioned car.

Formula on the title is no big thing.

That's definetly not a trans am. Like xbrian said, no WS6 in the RPO code, no WS6. Take the vin number and look it up on line. http://www.compnine.com/vid.php

Put the vin in here, it will tell you all the options from the car. Best of luck man.

If I'm not mistaken, WS9 is the RA Formula correct?

Could just be the optioned Formula and the guys a moron, always look at the spoiler for quick analysis, RPO codes for confirmation.. LOL

I'm pretty sure you got your RPO's messed up

Y82 is a trans am coupe, I think y84 was a t/a vert. Y83 was the 1994 T/A GT. The formula RPO is W66 i believe.

Get it right a Trans Am doesn't need the WS6 option to be a T/A.

OP do you want to know if you have a base "Trans Am" or a "Trans Am WS6"?

Quick Reply: is it a trans am?
