Default Magnaflow merge review

My father has a cam only 2000 WS6 with hooker headers, hooker y-pipe, and a hooker catback. The merge on the hooker y-pipe is horrible, so for fathers day I bought him the magnaflow merge. With the hooker y-pipe all you could hear was rasp at any rpm, it had no tone to it.

With the magnaflow merge the rasp is all but gone. There is a hint of it at ~2300 under high load, but other than that there is 0 rasp. It completely changed the tone of the exhaust. It's a lot deeper and more mellow with no rasp at all.

Couple pics.

The magnaflow merge is a well constructed piece that gets overlooked here imo.

I have one, but it's after the I pipe where it goes goes from one pipe into two, it is very well constructed and looks like it flows well.

Not to mention only $27 shipped and it's stainless.

Did you get the rest of the y-pipe custom made to flow into the merge?

Had the back of it welded up with a u-bend. Cheapest place I found that was autozone for the 3" stainless magnaflow bend.

Hard to see in this pic.

I've actually been running this merge and a custom y-pipe on my car for awhile but it was put on at the same time as the 2otl, so this was a good a-b comparison.

This is how it came from hooker.

We opened it up as much as we could with a long die grinder but it wasn't perfect and it was still more of a t than a y merge.

I have the magnaflow merge on my car with a magnaflow 4x9 dumped before the rear and there is little to no rasp at all. I get compliments on the sound all the time. I also got it from summit for under 30 bucks with free shipping.

My Pacesetter Y looked exactly the same. The outside wasn't much prettier...

Is the merge you used 3" dual in and 3" exit as well? I think I'm going to go for one, I'm sure in addition to the reduction of rasp it will add a little performance with the better flow

Nope, 3" inlets with a 3" outlet is as big as it gets.
