Default Fuel Poring Out of Exhaust port

I just want to let you all know in case this happens to you because I have never heard or seen this. The shop was trying to start my car (new engine rebuilt with a turbo) and they said that fuel was "Pouring" out of #5 exhaust port, I thought, Pouring? No way even with the 95Lb injectors. I get there and the #5 spark plug was removed and when the mech keyed on and off, yup, Fuel was literally pouring out of the exhaust like a gas can, we unplugged all of the injectors and still the same. I thought the fuel pressure regulator? about that time Mike said to remove the vacum line that goes to the regulator. When he keyed on, fuel shot out of the vacum line. As you all know the vacum line is directly across from the #5 port, so it was spraying fuel across inside the intake into the #5 cylinder..Crazy!

also happened to someone in my local club. lol

Good thing that was caught before any cylinder pressure could be applied or you would've most likely had a brand new, hydrolocked engine. What kind of fuel pressure are you running?

Yea I'm glad the engine didn't start, I am running dual in tank Walbro GS 340's with stock pressure, but at that time the pressure was around 53lb..

Reminds me of when I worked for Cadillac roadside service. Got to the guys hose and the whole garage reeked of gas. I looked and there were big puddles by both tailpipes. Dragged it back to the shop and pulled the intake, it was completely full of gas, along with the crankcase. Nearly 10 gallons worth in all.

Make sure the oil and filter gets changed before the engine is turned over again.

Bad thing is before we found this problem they had already changed the oil for the second time and the plugs, now it will be on the third time with 0 time on the motor. But plugs and oil are a helluva lot cheaper that a new motor...

It's been argued the stock regulator is the best one you'll ever buy or need.

I guess mine varnished up or the diaphram dried out from sitting for almost 3 years, the regulator itself is around 11 -12 years old. I don't think Aeromotive will take it back.

Thats just crazy!

I wonder if you could put a one way check valve in the vaccum line?

There is a one way check valve for the opti so you don't pressurize it under boost, The problem is on a boost reference regulator, that is what it goes by, pressure being fed back into the regulator. So if you install a check valve, the
regulator will not operate as designed..

I know the first time they did start the engine and it supposedly ran for a few seconds and died, we thought it was the driver box so I purchased a Versa Fueler, same thing. So I am also hoping they did not hydrolock the motor. The shop told me the last time they tried to start it is just locked up, no crank because I guess the cylinder was full of fuel..

Can this lead to kabooom?

Was thinking about replacing the stock regulator with something aftermarket but this is crazy.

Anyone know of a good 1?
Anyone remember the link to the site that showed you how to rebuild the stocker and also make it adjustable?

I couldn't believe it when Tony told me what happened. I'm glad you and Mike finally found the issue.
