Default LT's, Catted-Y pipe.....CATBACK?

So i just ordered american racing long tubes and a catted Y pipe for my 1998 Z-28. I previously ordered a magnaflow cat back exhaust (dual Tips). However the gentlemen on the phone said i would need to add an additional part to tie in my y pipe to my catback as they are different sizes? Anyone have any input on this. I was assuming that these would all be direct fit bolt on parts. Are there catback exhausts that will fit the Y pipe? Or am i going to have the same issue wherever i go? Any input on who has done this, or dealt with this in the past would be great!

Thanks,
Derek

?

That doesnt make any sense. The Y-pipe and I-pipe of the cat-back should both be 3 inches... Is the ARH y-pipe not 3 inch exit?

I know that the american racing headers y pipe is 3". I bought the more expensive version of the Magnaflow (which has the dual tips) for my cat back system.

It didnt make sense to me either. That is why i am asking the question. i assumed that the cat back and the y pipe were the same size?

I have that identical set-up on my car... ARH headers, catted y, quad tip magnaflow. Though it was installed by the previous owner, I did not notice any sort of extra reducer or anything on there. I think its all 3 inches and you are good to go.

No, it is all 3 inches EXCEPT the part where catback and Y pipe meet...it necks down to 2.75 inches at that connection.

ok, so what do i need to do to make it work or will it work as a bolt on scenario? Do all catbacks come like this? If not should i have ordered a catback that does not neck down to 2.75" at the connection and stays 3" throughout?

Thanks in advance.

The ARH y-pipe necks down to 2.75"? Are you sure?

All i know is back on my old car, i had the stock y-pipe, which actually is 2.75", and I ran a 3" cat-back (single tip magnaflow) and it all bolted right on...

I think the ARH Y-pipe is 3" throughout. It sounds like the magnaflow cat back pipe that ties into the Y-pipe necks down to 2.75". I am not sure why this is done, and am hoping someone could answer. I posted the same topic in the ls1/ls6 external questions thread hoping i can get a response there.

I never noticed ANY reduction in the ID on my ARH Catted Y & I went over the length (ID & OD) with calipers just to be sure. Same with my LT's.... ARH is pretty true to their word on pipe size that I have seen.

The Magnaflow Cat-back necks down to 2.75 in order to connect with the factory y-pipe IIRC.
