Default Cars Dying....

My friends 93' auto z28 is haivng a issue. Itll start up fine cold and run good until it warms up. Once the car is warmed up and its revved over 3k rpm the car dies in its tracks. I checked the fuel pressure and its perfect. Im leaning towards coil or icm or both. Once the car dies it wont start back up until it cools off alittle bit; and when it does start itll shut off again either by itself or when you give it some gas. When the car dies i pulled off the coil wire going to the opti and tested it and no spark...

The ICM and the Coil are the only things i can think of. My question is what else could cause something like this to happen?

ICM could be overheating. Try spacing it off the head with some washers/nuts.

Did do that, still the same thing. I swapped it out with another ICM that i had lying around, unfortunately idk if its any better then the one that was on the car originally. Were going to replace the ICM and the coil and see how that works.

Could there be anything else to cause those symptoms?

Ill give that a try tomorrow. If that clears up the issue (of it stalling) then that would mean a short in the O2's perhaps? But how would that prevent the coil from sparking

Bad coil, icm,IGN switch on column or rotor screws loose or backing out. Mine was doing this, when I removed the opti one screw was all they way out and one was loose. On a friends it would do this because of a bad. IGN switch..

Its not the opti. The coil itself isnt shooting spark. I also doubt it would be the ignition switch. Everything else works perfectly fine expect the coil shooting spark

Its probably your ECM. Mine did the exact same thing. Swapped ICM, Coil out with buddies. Still couldn't figure it out until my TCC solonoid in my tranny kept going out. It was a bad ECM all along F--ng everything up. Give it a swap. Damn 93s.

Do the tests to find out what exactly is not within spec off the www.shbox.com site. I had the exact issue with mine it would run when cold then when hot it would go haywire and then not start until it was cold again. Ended up being the Ignition Switch on the column that was burnt. Swapped it out and issue was fixed. Thought it was an opti, coil, or module and did the tets and all checked out and heard that the ignition switchs after awhile burn up and cause similar symptons.

I would not go that far yet... that is too bad that the new coil did not fix it though. It is not the coil wire is it?

Try this from shbox's website- was very helpful for myself when my car had a bad misfire- ended up just being the spark plugs

No it isnt the coil wire, i checked that first thing. The spark plugs might be slightly fouled on cylinder 7 but thats it. i mean the car dies Right at 3k rpm if your on it. After that however, it will just die at idle.

I dont believe it to be the opti because when the car dies im not getting any juice from the coil (thus the coil/icm replacement)

Dang that sucks, I'm sorry you have not figured it out yet. I honestly cannot think of any other solutions, and I do not want to just throw ideas at you to waste your time. Try emailing this guy below-- he has helped me with a lot of little issues with my LT1, knows his stuff, also does mail order tunes...

Changed the ignition switch. The old one looked fine (unfortunately) and when i put in the new one, the same bs persisted.
