Default C5 Brakes Installed, now experiencing braking noise

I put on Baer Decelarotors, Hawk Performance Ceramics, and BMR brackets. I am experiencing a noise/vibration under light braking. The noise/vibration will go away if I brake harder, or lighter. Seems to just be coming from the left side of the car.

What is causing this issue?

The caliper abutment bracket is uncomfortablly close to the rotors. I don't know if I am causing the bracket to come into contact with the rotor, but I would assume that if I brake harder, it would cause the noise to increase, but this is not the case.

I can only guess that it may be the pads, but I dont understand why just one side would be doing it. Any advice?

Check the bolts for tightness. I had to grind my abutment brackets a slight bit due to the rotors being real close. Stock calipers? Caliper spread?

I've got brand new C5 Stock Calipers (PBR). They are the Z06 red painted ones.

I had to grind out part of my abutment bracket and brake pad shims (metal clips) to get clearance between the rotor and the abutment bracket. I dont have a dremil so it is difficult and in some places impossible getting in there with an angle grinder to remove material. I started to notice the vibration after this.

Yes. Everything that required grease was greased.

Took it apart today to see whats going on.

The inner brake pad (the one next to the pistons) has only worn on the out side part of the rotor, and unevenly. I took a picture of this:

The outer pad has worn evenly, though. What's the deal? Bad caliper?

Looks like it wasn't seated correctly.

Another uneducated guess...

Did you properly bed-in the brakes?

Hawks bed-in procedures are on the product page.

Mark.

I did half of it. The initial squealing kept me from doing the final two stops. I will re do this proceedure.

looks like one of the clips for the pads is missing in that pic. hard to tell though.

That could cause the pad to move around and make noise until more braking force is applied.

I had to cut part of the clip off to keep the rotor from scrapping it. Its a very, very tight fit.

If I were to do it again, I would never EVER go with a welded steel bracket. The dimensional accuracy is way off. Not that BMR doesn't make good product, they just don't understand how to make accurate parts. I had to do quite a bit of grinding to get everything to line up, and even then.... its not good enough. A single piece of metal, like the UMI brackets, will have much greater accuracy due to being machined AFTER heated operations (such as welding, extruding, forming, etc)

It is possible that your mods to the clips and PAB are letting the pad move around a bit which can cause noise and uneven pad wear.
