My friend just picked up a 2011 Camaro and is worried about the dealer being able to detect a reflash even after its been reverted back. Is this something that they would be able to tell with a tech 2? Or is this a myth?

In the Tech2 there is under powertrain there is information/calibration ID/software numbers if they are changed we can tell. No myth. Our dealer used to give you a chance if the IDs were changed to have it flashed back to stock and bring it back.

The camaro I do belive is under GDS, so if you connect the new GDS/ Tech3 pretty much GM can access what we look at. So the option to change stuff back may not be there anymore.

E38/E67 ECM:
The dealer can detect a non-stock flash (cvn numbers are different), but they cannot detect anything if it has been flashed back to stock.

Duramax ECM:
the ECM remembers the last 10 flashes so you will be found out.

Not exactly.

On the CVN check, they can see the CVN for the last 10 flashes, so if you flashed 3 tunes to it, then restored it back to stock, they'd see 3 non stock CVNs before the stock one. No good.

That is, unless you are flashing with one of our tools that do not affect these CVNs and are undetectable once flashed back to stock.

The E38/E67 also stores flashed CVN's, ah, I wasn't aware that they did this now.

Some ECM has a Flash Tracker. It will list the OSID for every time it has been flashed and I think the CVN for each OSID.
I had a 2009 Duramax in the shop that had all 10 slots filled up with the same OSID. GM didn't flash the ECM 10 times.

This is what you see on a 2011 camaro -- GDS is capable of displaying up to 10 Calibration History events.

Most people try and work around their warranty like a Cam that sounds stock, or a N20 tune with their wet kit kinda thing I took out a tranny & a rearend launching my 98 T/A at the strip, luckly the rep was cool about the aftermarket clutch and modded suspension and replaced both under my GMPP warranty I had...ahhh the good ole days

Does this apply to all E38's? It has been my understanding that the E38s did not have this feature available or enabled and the E38 could be flashed back to stock with no tell.

I had an E38 hooked to a Tech II when iposted the picture and it did not have the flash history counter

only the diesels tend to have the history counter...

but, there are other items stored in the ecm, such as odometer mileage, that they also can compare... so swapping ecm's isn't an option... because the mileage won't match the bcm/odometer...

there's a whole GM TSB out about this...

This is the correct answer. The reflash PN needs to match the CVNs designated code and it stores the previous 10. I pulled this up personally on a customers ZL SLP Camaro and found he flashed and went back to stock before bringing it in. Turned out his aftermarket intake wasn't installed right and it was throwing rich codes.

There is a TSB from GM about this.
They want the info sent to them if the shop tech get the CVN & info.
Remember the PCM is networked in the car, other modules also report info as well.

anytime engine or transmission replacement is need under GM warranty they must have a screenshot of the tech2/GDS showing all of the Cal numbers and such. If they dont get it them then GM powertrain center will not authorize the repair. They also check for the aftermarket Cals at that point
