First,a 4000 against the 'resistance' of 3.42s' will/should require a good size tranny fluid cooler.
To answer your ?,4000/3.42 is a good combination.Slippage of the stall might be too much to your liking. 3.73s would make the 4000 a little 'tighter',but 3.42s' are stronger than 3.73s'.
After you run it for awhile, you'll determine what direction you want to go.
BUT,get a cooler in there to avoid destroying the built tranny.

i the biggest aftermarket cooler i could find on it. i think ill wait till i get it retuned for the bigger stall, i went from a 3200 to a 4000 so it dosnt really shift right but it still drives nice.

Its all personal preference really. Just get a good tune, and put in some time behind the wheel to see how you feel with the setup.
Its like the few people that say a 4k+ stall doesnt make a good daily driver, but Ive driven one (with 3.73s) for a few years now, and have only recently stepped it back to an SS3600.

I think you will not find tires to hook that up, and I don't think you have the
cam to make good use of a 4000RPM stall speed. But that's water over the
dam. If you want to tear up your diff for a 9% increase in rear wheel
torque that you can't put to the ground except in 3rd & 4th, rock on.
I have a lower stall speed and likely a lower STR than you, and it only
hooks up halfway through 2nd on street tires or Mickeys.

I just purchased a Yank 3600 SS and I have 2.73 gears. Just basic bolt on mods in the sig, but is this going to be an efficiant set up? It is a daily driver and all you guys keep talking about the high gears, but what is it going to be like with the 2.73's. Will i need to upgrade?

Now I have the SS4000 and 3.42s. It's a lot easier to drive. Idk what it is, just going through the gears faster and it's no slouch on the low end.
I mean the 2.73s weren't a slouch, I beat plenty of people even with 3.42s and 3.73s but it's a lot quicker now imo. Just need new tires now cuz it blows em off so easy.
