Default LQ4 Build - Help/Questions!

Hey guys, just about back from the sandbox so i figured i would start ordering some parts and etc for my 01 Z shell. Just picked up an 05 LQ4 motor from a member on here. I know the compression on these is about 9:5 correct? I don't plan on going FI, want to keep it NA for a bit.

My main question is which heads to go with to bump up the compression? I have read 243's or 5.3 heads will work great. Any recommendations on either or? I want to be just over or very close to 400RWHP/TQ through a built trans/4k stall.

I was thinking some 2.5 LS6 Heads/Torquer V3 combo. Just a ported LS6 mani on top of that until i get the built trans/9" set up in and full suspension. Then i will be going with a FAST set up.

Should mention i will be running the stock rotating assembly for awhile with just the H/C set up until i free up some more money, so this will be somewhat a budget build until i get moved and settled in when i get home.

Any suggestions you guys have to bump the compression and make some great numbers, or any other input is highly appreciated.

Thanks guys - Zack

Also forgot to mention the 05 LQ4's don't have the 24X Reluctor do they? What am i going to need to run this motor with a built 4L60?

What kind of car it was from ? I just put a lq4 from a 05 express an the only way it think you can check is the serial numbers on the block an see if it has alum heads and see if it has a cam sensor on the front cover. Not to sure right now Stressing just blew my ten bolt lol

IF it dosent have the front cam sensor on the cover it should be a 24 not a 58 but if it needs a oil pan gasket while its off just count the teeth

I just did the same build. Went with milled PRC LS6 heads, and a custom grind EPS cam. 10.55:1 compression, and it runs great. Check out the build thread in my sig if you're interested.

I read through your whole build a week or so back, your build thread is actually the reason i pulled the trigger on a 6.0 instead of something else! Haha, what are the head's milled to? I was thinking of either the TorquerV3 or a Pat G speced custom ground!

If it has the crank sensor in it, black is 24 and grey is 58. A 65cc chamber on a lq4 will get you right at 10:1 compression. A 59cc chamber should be around 11:1.

Wow, well thanks! The heads are milled to 62cc. The cam was spec'd by
PatG, and is pretty much the biggest thing we could get in there without flycutting. It sounds great and performs great with the 4.10s.

Of course! Going to wire tuck it(inspired by your thread haha) and paint the engine bay gloss black, since the whole car was just repainted. Then swap her in. It hook up pretty easily dropping it back in? First time dropping a motor back in the car, versus taking one out lol. I will have to talk to Pat and see what we can come up with! Thanks man

I would have went with a custom cam from Pat G but I already had a cam kit from my old ls1 so I just swapped everything over. It was the Raptor cam from thunder racing. Ashamed too cause I put a spanking on my brother's cts-v then broke the crappy 10bolt.
