Ugh! Not again! There is no difference in performance unless the SS/WS6 in question came with a lid and less restrictive exhaust from the factory. Even if the SS/WS6s did have a few more ponies, they are usually sold pretty loaded with options, so the weight evens things out. If you are going to go mod crazy, buy a Z28/Formula. If you just want a fast, good-looking factory car, get the SS/WS6...

Perhaps the TA always was faster on the mag tests because Pontiac prepped those cars for the tests. Remember the 1960's GTO that beat a Ferrari (later on we found out it had a bigger engine in it than it was suppose to have)?

And C5R's can be found for $2500 bare; and that is a steal of a price. Add in all the valvetrain components and port job......another 4K. So you'll have a set of $6500+ heads.

I bought my SS cuz I just love the way it looks, but if you dont care about looks and want LS1 that will be moded I say just get the Z28. But if you care about the looks and want to mod the LS1 then get the SS.
Both ways you got yourself an LS1

the SS's put down the same power as any other ls1, there is no performance gain. SS's didnt get some magical ls1 engine.
the formula is a v6 body style with an ls1. the trans am has the body kit and both put down the same power as any other ls1 just like the SS. and the ASC ws6's would be the SS's counter part.
assuming you compare relative year and tranny.

What is it with all these newbies coming on here lately? They all have like less than 20 posts, and all of them say the same thing that SS/WS6 is faster and has more power.
I guess that's why they are here. To learn about their ignorance. I think some people think because they have a LS1 car they know all there is to know.

The only difference between the Z28 and the SS is purely cosmetic. If you get the SS then you can say you have number ?? of 6k or more made. If you get the Z, you can't say what number you have and there were ALOT more made. With the SS you get the functional ram air box and hood. With the Z you do not. You also get the SS badging and the Z you get the Z28 badging. With the SS you get the nice flip-up style spoiler with the Z you a basic "laid" down spoiler. And of course the rims will be different.
The only thing in HP you can gain is whatever the functional hood picks up on the highway. I'm not sure on this, but I think you probably get the SLP exhaust set-up. I'm not sure if this exhaust setup is basically the same for the Z.
If you want to save money, go get a Z and add all of the cosmetic stuff at a later time. There are plenty of peoeple on this board that have gotten a Z and turned into their own "SS" type car.
Good luck.

and i dont know what u mean about me being se4rious about that stuff. but ya i planned to bore it over and put all the parts on it the week i got it. anyone have objections to that? i also heard that MTI is a good place to go to gte some parts. but ya...i think imma just get the z and put the ss hood and spoiler on it because with the supercharger i have to remove the ram air induction anyways. so why have it? thanks for the help
