View Full Version : Iron block for auto-x/road course?

Well, I have a dilemma. Im getting ready to build my engine, a forged 347. I havent bought the pistons/rods yet, and I can get a LQ block for pretty cheap. So ive been debating doing a 370 instead.

Just wondering how much the extra 100lbs on the nose of the car will affect the handling. Im still leaning towards the 347, but the extra cubes would be nice.

Any input on this?

If you're serious about road course HPDE and auto-x, you don't want the extra weight

I agree the extra cubes will likely not make up for the extra 100# on the nose.
On a 2.5 mile road course I believe the lighter car would have a 1 to 1.5 second advantage.

You have to accelerate, turn and stop the extra weight. Everything else being pretty much equal except the cubes, I think the alum block wins.
