Default Anyone ever run 305s on a 9.5" wide wheel?

I am trying to purchase 305/30/18s from a member on here and my current rim size is 9.5" in width. I've been told this is pushing it, so I don't want to spend the money and find they won't mount.

Has anyone ever had this particular fitment? Everything work out ok?

BTW, car is just a DD, and will not be track driven.

To quote the sticky;
"9.5" ..... +38 to +56 mm .... 255, 265, 275, 285"

I wouldn't try it.

It will mount just fine. It's not unsafe, but will not wear correctly.

Most I'd go would be 285. 305 is way out of the range for me. But that's just me.

Ya don't listen to me. I have only been in the tire business for 10 years.

He asked if running that size tire would work out ok? The answer is yes it will work but it will not wear correctly on that size wheel.

truck tire? yes, car tire? no.... youll get it to mount but you wont be putting 305 worth of rubber to the ground. even though i forced a 275/35/18 on a 8.5" wheel on the front of mine :-/

Go to tire rack and look up that size tire and look at the specs link. Each tire they had mininum rim width was 10.5". So can you get the tire to mount probably so. Should you though? Probably not.

Well that's my question, why shouldn't I if it will fit? Sorry if that sounds dumb, but I'm honestly not sure why and am trying to find out!

squeezing a wide tire on a narrow rim causes the out side of the tire to bulge... causing the edges of the tread face to not touch the ground...

this^ its the balloon effect. The center of the tire will wear faster. You could counter act that by running a lower pressure but thats just dumb and unsafe

Dang, thanks for your reply though! I always appreciate a sponsor's help!

For future reference, is a 295 ok with a 9.5" wheel?

You don't need a sponsors feedback to get the correct answer. It's pretty simple. A 9.5" wheel should have at largest a 285. If you want a bigger tire get wider wheels!

I run a 295/35/18 firestone and the fit is just about perfect. Keep in mind that some manufactures measure a little differently, my 285/35 Michelin actually appeared to have more bulge to it.

I say all this just to give you my experience. If you were a customer that came to my shop I would suggest no larger than a 285/35.
