Default is bypassing the knock sensor safe.

im running a 93 z28 ( 93 cars have ecm ) thats getting some timing knocked off ny the knock sensor. about 5 degrees. im thinking about doing the 3.9k resistor in line to bypass it and was wondering how safe it is. i only run 93 octane and i more or less just want one or two good runs at the track. its obd1 so i cant use a lt4 km

Lol...

Nothing is "safe". With that attitude you should put it back to stock.

Disabling the knock hardware instead of properly tuning it and eliminating false knock is retarded.

And who said you cant use an LT4 KM on OBD I....? You can

It can be desensitized through a tune, I used Alvin at pcmforless.

obd1 one uses an ecm and in which the knock module is soldered inside it. the lt4 wasnt even used in 93 in the vettes yet. there is alot of differences between 93 lt1's and 94-up. ecm, speed desity, 22lbs injectors ect. now if there is some secret that you know about them im all ears.

You're wrong, period. There is NO provision on the 93 PCM for the knock module.

WRONGGGGGG. Not in a 93' man.

Also, sometimes you simply cannot tune out all false knock and you just have to bite the bullett and tune it out or in his case do the resistor mod.

Desensitizing doesn't work as well as the lt4 km does.

Tune it out like quik said.

No Im not, period. He said OBD I can't use an LT4 knock module. Which is not correct.

I know full well the 93 PCM is different and can't use the LT4 KM, but that's not what he said.

Don't want someone reading later on thinking you can't use an LT4 KM with OBD I because you can. Just not a 93

Splitting hairs!!! Making a general statement does not solve or answer his question, when you know full well (as he stated it) he has a 93' PCM.

Tune it out like quik said.
You can easily desensitize the stock knock module to work just as well or better then the LT4 KM.

I have a 93 and desensitized it myself through the tune, and my tuner said I did it perfectly. The knock sensor still functioned, and didn't pick up false knock.

Prior to getting my own tuning setup, my mail tuner had "desensitized" my ks.

It may help on some or most, but I am living proof that not all of them get it right.

I'm wondering if there are any accounts of people destroying their engines from bypassing the knock sensor.

Can you imagine all the people with solid rollers or older cars? They must be living in fear constantly with no knock sensors!

It is not really something that can be done in one try remotely.

You have to gradually get more and more aggressive until you just barely remove the false knock. Too much desensitizing and your KS won't pick up REAL knock, so just like with fueling and timing a mail order tuner will be conservative.

Ohh the HORROR. I have noticed how sensitive people are to this issue. I am truly debating if the benefits of the knock sensor outweigh its annoyance.
